We have driven by the Gables for many years, always saying we need to stay there, well this week we got the chance as we had to leave another establisment that just did not work out, We booked a room and headed over to check in about 4, a cheerful lady met us at the check in counter thats back inside a bit, she quickly got us in, gave us our keys and walked us to the Carriage house which is behind the main house, Room was clean, roomy and the bed was fantastic for our taste, Wine and cheese is served in the afternoon and was no problem as they keep the stock rotating till it closes, Walking in the main building you can sit in one of 2 large rooms and look right out on the bay across the street, it really is tranquil. In the morning breakfast is served in one of the front rooms, and there is enough selection to have a nice start to your day. There is a self serve icebox stocked with sparkling water and soda that you can come use anytime. I really would have liked to spend a night in the main hose, but the one room that had a private bath was rented, the rooms upstairs are really cool, vintage look with all new fresh beds and great views, but be aware they use a common bathroom thats on the same floor, I could not talk my better half into that so didn't get a chance to see how that works with 3 or 4 rooms on that floor. One thing I have found at B&Bs is you usually meet some real nice couples and mutual respect probably makes the shower issue not a big deal. There is biking and a very well groomed pathway that will take you down to Montereys cannery row and the aquarium walking in about 10 to 15 minutes, it is not lit so either carry a flashlight or plan to be back by sundown because its very dark on the path at night. Parking is on the street for the most part, but there is one general parking and one handicap parking between the house and the carriage house. Our stay was very enjoyable, all the staff was wonderful , we would stay here anytime without hesitation and look forward to coming back in the new year.
