We booked through Hotels.com. Easy to find, and welcomed warmly by the Manager and escorted over to our room. The property is colorful, clean, and very spacious - and the pool area is just beautiful. More like a resort than an Inn. Right next door is the Butterfly Sanctuary and it was an educational experience.
Because of the COVID factor, there was no breakfast, but there was coffee on a stand in front of the office every morning from 8 to 10am. We had a coffee pot, refrigerator and microwave in our room, and our room was in The Mansion - which was just perfect! Also because of COVID, there's no maid service daily but you can request additional linens if needed. I appreciated the cleanliness and spaciousness of the room. And the bed was totally comfortable.
This is a dog friendly hotel, and they truly are. plus there were a lot of walking trails and 25 minutes to the beach! My absolute favorite was the quiet at night. We were on the ground floor of the Mansion, and could hear the people walking above, but by 11pm both nights we were there it was perfectly quiet.
I definitely would stay here every time I go to Monterey. It's colorful, friendly, romantic, quiet, and just a perfect satisfying stay.
You are also a right turn and 3 minutes to downtown Pacific Grove. Right now COVID restrictions are dining outside only - but there were plenty of choices.

Nice accommodation but a little run down, in the details, the fridge was packed w ice and needed to be defrosted , an easy fix... why not? The carpeting was worn, this place could be much better with a little effort, the person who checked us in was very nice!

We booked two rooms, for 3 people, each for a week. The Deluxe Queen and Deluxe King rooms each have plenty of space, comfortable beds and were thoroughly cleaned! The deer visit the property often and the Butterfly Sanctuary is just a few feet from the back of the motel. Butterfly Grove is very conveniently located in Pacific Grove. It's a downhill 7-10 minute walk to the ocean and a 5 minute walk into downtown. The parking spaces are located directly in front of the rooms. They have an ice machine and a vending machine on the property also. There is no kitchen, but with plenty of counter space, a decent size fridge and a small microwave, we were able to create our own "kitchen" and eat plenty of sandwiches, melts, chickens, snacks, etc..., which saved us a ton of money from having to eat out in this pricey town. TIP: If you're staying here for more than 1-2 nights and want to make food, make sure to bring some paper plates and plastic forks/knives/napkins.

More positives:
--They have Direct TV :) with many more channels than other inns in the area
--The rooms are very spacious
--The water pressure is decent for a motel!
--The bath towels are super for drying off. They're not made of the usual cheap material most motels offer. I love their bath towels!
--They have very good coffee either outside the lobby (due to Covid) and/or in the room.
--There is a work space and plenty of drawers.
--Sid is great at answering any questions or solving any issues that come up.
-- I had no issues with thin walls or hearing people in other rooms. The doors do slam a bit if one is not careful, but that's up to each guest to remember.

A couple of places where they could improve:
--The fireplace doesn't have specific directions and would go off and on as it pleased. Perhaps a small guide book explaining how to use the TV, the fireplace, the fan, etc... would be helpful to guests.
-- The alarm clock was possessed...it went off at any hour even after I had turned everything off. I finally unplugged it.
-- Perhaps stocking the room with a couple more bars of soap would be good as the bars are small and run out quickly.
-- There are minor cosmetic areas that could use some repairs: the base of the showers/tubs, some cracks/bumps in the concrete, landscaping, etc... to help modernize the place a bit.

Overall, I definitely hope to return to Butterfly Grove next year. This is a great place, quiet, clean and friendly. There aren't too many places where you can "live" in the woods and be at the ocean within 3 minutes. Thanks for a great week Butterfly Grove. See you soon :)

Room tip: They're all good rooms!

We really enjoyed our little family getaway here. The rooms were spacious and clean, the front desk attendants were nice and helpful.
The only minor issues were the walls are thin and people staying in the surrounding rooms were slamming their doors really hard and that's not the Inn's fault . Oh and if you happen to sleep hot, this Inn has no AC. so open windows it is :) Pacific Grove is a great little town and the Inn is really close to the beach. We will definitely be back for another visit *with a fan*.

We were fortunate to have a huge room with amazing vaulted ceilings! Parking was right in front of the room which was a huge plus. The decor could use a little modern update. There’s a lot of potential to make this place really stylish! Excellent location in Pacific Grove, right next to the Butterfly Sanctuary. Staff was friendly, but my only complaint was that there wasn’t any after hour service. They only gave us one key, and I accidentally locked us out by leaving the key in the room. We called the after hours number several times but no one was around. Luckily our friends were staying there as well otherwise we would have been sleeping in the car until 8:00 when someone arrived. Besides that, everything else was just fine!
