I stayed in a queen bed room and was given the corner room on the 2nd floor which was perfect! The room has safe deposit box, microwave, fridge & toiletries. The bed is nice too, not too soft as if you sink into the bed. They also have hot tub and pool open although I didn't use them. There is parking available onsite and walking to downtown takes around 15 minutes. There are also places to eat nearby if you don't want to walk to downtown. Overall, very comfortable stay!

I was so sleep deprived when i wrote my review earlier, I forgot to mention the number one problem with this hotel:

It is over run by hoodlums, who all seem to be chummy with Vanessa, the receptionist. There was thundering pounding above the room I was trying to sleep in, like a herd of elephants running back and forth. There was no one answering phones, and no one in the lobby. So I got dressed and went upstairs and talked to all the partiers, who all said "it's not us". But it suddenly got quiet about 1:00 a.m.

The place is filthy. Really sad, because it looked like it used to be a nice hotel. To quote another traveled who recently reviewed Lamplighter SLO, "to avoid at any cost." You likely will get little to no sleep, and the receptionist is abusively rude. Zero accountability. Manager nowhere to be found. Place needs to be shut down. Contact health division, City of San Luis Obispo, county authorities.

Shame on Hotwire for putting travelers in harm's way here.

Room tip: Insist on inspecting the room first. Look for feces on bed, and smoke holes in bedding if you are a non smoker.

Review from our stay on 8/7/21 - Our first mistake (and totally our fault) was not securing a hotel reservation before we arrived in SLO. We've been able to get last minute reservations on previous trips but this time, SLO was fully booked. So we took the only available room that wasn't $600/night.

From the outside and the lobby, the Lamplighter Inn looks like a nice place to stay. There's a beautiful aquarium in the lobby and the staff seemed friendly. Once we got up to our room on the 3rd floor (door opened up to the parking lot), we quickly realized this place isn't all that its cracked up to be. We opened the curtains and realized that the sheer curtain liner had been slashed and tore to pieces. (see pic) The arm on the rolling chair at the desk in our room was falling off. The leg on the desk was barely hanging on. The closet had a bunch of mismatched hangers in there, including some nice plastic ones from Walmart! The counter area around the sink in the bathroom looked like it had not been wiped down because there was dried foamy stuff on the counter (and their website says their housekeeping goes through stringent cleaning & sanitizing in every room for Covid). My husband went down to the jacuzzi and said the entire bottom of the jacuzzi was covered in dirt. And to top it off, there was an opened, half eaten yogurt in the refrigerator when we got there.

With taxes & fees, we paid $299 for one night at the Lamplighter. Total rip off but our fault for not getting a reservation beforehand. Lesson learned !! The sad thing is this place could be nice if they would just put a little effort into maintaining it.
It needs a thorough cleaning and serious maintenance from top to bottom.
We did mention our issues to the girl at the desk when we checked out. She seemed shocked about our room but honestly, it couldn't have been the first time she heard it.

Room tip: Best advice would be to choose another hotel

The first room they gave us, the a/c didn't work and the room smelled as bad as any room I had ever walked into. So I complained and they gave me a second room - the a/c worked and it didn't smell, but the place was dirty - there were old french fires on the balcony and a few were stuck in the a/c fan blower. Do yourself a favor and no matter what the price or problems, find another place.

Checked in and first room had non-working air conditioning. Reassigned to another room. Swim pool looked like it had not been cleaned in a long while. Spa also had debris/sand in it. Pool/spa were not useable in my opinion.

That’s it. I don’t have 200 words to write. This is filler, just to meet the requirements of 200 words minimum.

Room tip: Inoperable pool/spa.
