Not to be overly hyperbolic, but this is a great little jewel of the city. There is a very pretty small rose garden, a WONDERFUL Japanese Garden, nice picnic areas, a train, great play areas for the kids, an ice rink during the holidays.....on and on and on. I walk there every single day and it is pristine and relaxing. If you are staying in the area and want a place to get a bit of exercise, this is it.

visiting during any season is a treat. the colors and scents of flowers in bloom. the turning of the leaves. the smell after a rain.

we love strolling the park and sitting at one of the benches near the gazebo in the rose garden. so peaceful.

you can never totally lose yourself from the city sounds around you, but that's part of the charm and enjoyment. to be so close to nature's beauty.

I stumbled across Central Park while visiting the japanese gardends. It was truly peaceful and made me want to just down and ponder about how things could be worse. If you visit the park just take a moment to relax. Life is truly to short. Parking can be a pain if you visit during the weekend but it's so worth it. Thank you for San mateo for allowing me to enjoy your park.

Sporting a good playgound for the youngsters, a tiny train dating from the 1950's, tennis courts and generous grounds, SM Park is a great place to enjoy. But don't stop there! Visit the darling Japanese garden, marvel at the Rose Garden and pick up plants at the Greenhouse when they're open.
