Once every couple of weeks, a friend of mine and I HAVE to have lunch at Radiance. The menu is limited, but for some crazy reason, it is always amazingly satisfying. We are both meat eaters, but crave this vegetarian food and find it is filling and delicious. Now about the decor.....I'm sure the owners shopped for the seating during the recession and got some rock bottom deals on bad, burgundy office chairs, so be aware that seating is not luxurious. And the room you are sitting in looks like last night's seance was a big hit. I'm not sure why this all melds together to make such an interesting dining experience, but after lunching for years in loud restaurants with hard surfaces and mommies yelling at their kids, this place is a true oasis. Try any of the Radiance dishes, and you will be a happy camper. Oh, and it all comes with a side of Zen.

This vegan café is inside a quirky bookstore. They are “all” gluten free except for the salad dressing, but they keep that away from the other items – ie grain dish, vegetable dish, soups, etc. The owner Kilimba is very honest and knowledgeable about Celiac/the extreme needs to be completely gf and without cross contamination. I called to confirm the entire restaurant was gluten free like the website indicates, and the owner (Kilimba) assured me it was. She then called back minutes later to tell me that one of the spices in the salad dressings is from India and is cut with wheat owner -- I definitely appreciated the honesty. The menu is smallish – they have a grain dish, vegetable dish, soup, tapioca pudding, etc. – and all vegan. I got the grain dish – but it was somewhat plain (brown rice, quinoa, and corn). But, it was celiac safe and Kilimba was extremely welcoming.

An incredible place. Limited hours so make sure you check if they are open in advance. It is connected to the most peaceful and spiritual bookstore in Marin County. The Radiance cafe is fantastic. The Yogi bowl will keep you coming back for more.

Radiance serves health-optimized Californian interpretations of Indian staples such as dal and curries, along with salubrious green stuff almost unheard-of in far-away India.

Radiance isn't trying to be authentic Indian cuisine (for which your body will thank you, whether or not your taste buds concur), and the flavor and texture experiments are done more skillfully here than at many other pseudo-Indian places (read: it's a step above your typical hippy-Indian fare).

I had the yogi bowl and found it quite satisfying, and the choco-laddu dessert is excellent.

Central location is convenient, and on my visit everyone on both sides of the counter was warm and friendly, so it was a pleasant experience all around.

Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients (organic and local), as long as you don't consider table service an important part of the value proposition (it's an order-at-the-counter place).

Enjoy!

I have been to many vegetarian, macrobiotic, and vegan restaurants, but Radiance comes in first place hands down. Radhanath and Kilimba, the young couple who do all the shopping and cooking are passionate about the healing properties in food. Everything they prepare is colorful and delicious. Their "yogi bowls" combine the day's grain, soup, veggies or you can order large or small Radiance platters. The ginger teas, the garbanzo chocolate deserts, the tapioca puddings, the grain combinations all leave you satisfied and nurtured physically, mentally, and spiritually. Lunchtime is your best bet for being able to sample everything because by their 7 p.m. closing time a lot of the food is gone. The restaurant is set up inside a bookstore so the place is full of interesting people, even someone who does Tarot card reading if you're so inclined. Live music, Kirtan style, is offered some evenings and there is a feeling of community there, a community that is very welcoming. Radiance has limited hours, from Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. so plan ahead
