“BBQ Pork is their specialty! Loved the pork shoulder.”
Review of Cochon Volant Bbq

Cochon Volant Bbq
Ranked #46 of 130 Restaurants in Sonoma
Description: Cochon Volant BBQ Smoke House serves classic American barbecue—ribs, brisket, pork shoulder, chicken and more—smoked over almond wood and presented Texas-style—sliced to order, priced by the pound and served on a butcher paper-lined tray. Sandwiches, sides, Larman’s signature “Killer” fries and “Big Ass” salads round out the menu, which should be familiar to Cochon Volant fans and those whose memories go back to Rob’s Rib Shack in the Sonoma Valley.

The two of us shared the combo-for-2 plate and had plenty to take home. Pork brisket, sausage, shoulder and ribs were the cuts included in the combo plate. The meats were done to perfection. I wasn't crazy about the sausage. You could tell it had been slow roasted with enough smoky flavor. They serve plenty of food. The sides were yummy. Cole slaw, corn bread, french fries, and green beans were what we ordered. The spices were well proportioned in all dishes. Their 2 choices of BBQ sauce were served on the side. One pretty sweet, the other had a nice kick to it. Attention to detail showed up here. The service from Daniel was prompt, knowledgeable, and personable. Next time, I would come back for the pork sandwich and cole slaw.

We were looking for a nice place to eat real American BBQ - but being in California our options were limited. One of the locals in Sonoma suggested we go to Cochon Volant.
The restaurant is quite small and simply decorated.
We ordered a combo meal which was tasty and well cooked (Enough for two as the portions are huge). Service was good and staff very helpful.

I will visit again.

Just into Boyes Hot Springs sits Cochon Volant, I think the space used to be Hotbox. Stopped in at 11:00 am it was just opening and the owner couldn't have been nicer, guided us through the menu and we had a terrific lunch. The brisket sandwich was rich and flavorful, unlike so many dry briskets out there. Fried chicken was a little surprise and smokey and really good, loved the mac 'n cheese fritters. House made pickles and great sides. It's a hard choice between Carolina sauce and Sonoma sauce, both were fresh and delicious. Sit outside for sure. Can't wait to come back.

A must "go to" restaurant in Sonoma. Rob and his crew do a phenomenal job of all of the smoked meats. My favorite is short ribs and Gene's is brisket. BUT, everything else is superb. Moist chicken for those that don't do beef, salad to die for, sides that are so good, especially the coleslaw. Corn bread yummy. I could go on and on AND if you feel like eating at home, pick up the food and bring it home. Lizzy's cookies are a must as well and all kinds of libations to wash down the food. We go at least once a week.

Our first visit to this place did not disappoint. We were looking for something different and decided to give this place a try. The barbecue pork ribs and brisket were delicious. Tender and we'll seasoned coleslaw was very good. Fries were served with a spicy seasoning on them. My husband liked the fries, I would prefer them plain. The cornbread was a bit dry and not our favorite. The cookie was HUGE but expected to be for $5. All in all it was a good choice for something different. Not the usual Sonoma dinner stop, but a good find for a quick fairly inexpensive take out meal. We will be back.
