The main street in downtown Truckee probably runs the length of a football field but is full of interesting artisan shops and quality one off clothing stores, bars and restaurants. Its worth a detour off I 80 and a great place to grab breakfast lunch or dinner.
We live here and often stroll through downtown to browse and shop. Excellent restaurants, great shops, good galleries and good wine tasting, especially the Pour House on Jibbom St.
The minute you enter town you get the feeling of having stepped back 100 years.
Super busy over the holidays but everyone is so accommodating.
The eateries are certainly not from the dark ages with every imaginabe type of food available
Nice downtown with lots of shops, galleries and restaurants. Real western vibe. Active rail line through center of town.
Old Town Truckee is certainly worth a visit. It has a nice old architecture, a variety of shops, a wide range of restaurants, unique coffee places, eclectic galleries and a train line right through town.
It's easy to limit yourself to the main drag (Donner Pass Road) but there are a few places to visit across the railroad tracks (West River Drive) and "behind" (north) Donner Pass Road on Church Street and Jibboom Street.
It's a good place to casually wander through and enjoy.
We stayed in a Rental House for Christmas. It was such a amazing trip. Downtown Truckee is really quaint little town. It was like going back in time a little. It was well decorated for the Holidays.
