This is a difficult review to write because it seems more like an eulogy for the Vintage Inn. We knew things had changed before arriving, but it was still a bit of a shocker. Gone is the warm, comfy, French country atmosphere. Instead, it's a very stark and sterile lobby area. Staff is friendly and helpful, but the hotel is "cold" in its appearance. Gone is the elaborate buffet in the morning with sparkling wine. Gone are the made to order omelets. The buffet is actually quite good, but not equal and there is more seating area than before. We heard an employee stating the Mumm sparkling wine was gone because they did a survey and guests said they had enough wine tastings in the valley. I don't ever recall anyone being forced to drink the sparkling wine, but maybe I missed that. The rooms are also rather sterile. Natural wood finish has been painted white. Bed is not as comfortable - my wife experienced back pain all week. Plus, it sounded like there was a plastic cover on the beds. Storage in the room is lacking and required using available drawers in multiple areas to unpack. The in-room safe sits on the floor of the closet - UNATTACHED to anything. Put your valuables in and they can just take the whole safe. The place has the appearance of a senior design project for a college. May look good, but is not really functional. Many lights are on dimmers, but the bulbs only really work if set on high. The bulbs flicker strongly at a comfortable light setting - almost strobe like - and enough to induce migranes or seizure if one is subject to them. They now have a $25/day "resort" fee - really??? This is a hotel with a pool, not a resort.

We have stayed at the Vintage Inn for about 30 years. We will not be back to Vintage House.

Good morning,

Thank you for taking the time to share your vast experience with Vintage Inn and the changes you have felt with the new property.

We never intended to push away such loyal guests like you, but rather are trying to enhance the product and experiences we offer. We know change is difficult, and we expected some negative comments about the complimentary omelets and sparkling wine, but that doesn’t make your review easy to read, by any means.

We are still aiming to provide the most value within Yountville with the complimtary breakfast, WiFi, wine tastings on Fridays and Saturdays, and more, but understand your decision to not return. If you have a change of mind, we’d love to welcome you back.

Warmest,

The Estate Management

Room were nicely done however there was a lack of storage space meaning dressers and place to unpack with that being said there should have been two luggage racks to work from. The bathroom was nice but also lacking in towel bars and places to hang the lovely robes provided.

Room Tip: ask for the quieter rooms located in the interior property away from roadway

We've been loyal guests of Vintage and Villagio Inns for many years, sometimes staying there several times per year. We've always been happy with the entire experience -- the service, the staff, the facilities, the breakfast, the rooms -- so when we learned a year ago that they would be under new ownership and there were plans to do an overhaul, we had mixed feelings. The "new & improved" hotels sounded great, but would that welcoming "family" feeling go away, now that the actual family-owned business would be replaced by a corporation? Sadly, the answer to that question is "yes".
The best part about the change is that the personnel they kept is still awesome -- some of the dining staff, housekeeping, the spa, the front desk, and Chris Croft (Guest Services Manager). They made our stay enjoyable and comfortable. The manager we've dealt with for years, Jeff Smith, was no longer there, and that was a bummer: Jeff's customer service was excellent and he was a great face to the Villagio and Vintage Inn brands.
The aspects about the new management we missed are all the "extras" -- cost-cutting, I'm sure, was the reason they got rid of these, but they're also the things that made loyal guests feel special: the welcome bottle of wine in the room, the snacks that came with a personal note thanking us for coming back, some of the hot foods at breakfast, including the waffle and omelet stations.
All in all, the weekend we had was great: the new interior design really made the place look more upscale and matched the room rates a bit more, and everyone really tried to make the guests feel taken care of. Change is always tough, especially when you've know the people and the place for so long. Hopefully, they'll find that "slick and new always needs to be balanced with "familiar and comfortable" and that they go back to rewarding guest loyalty.

Good Morning,

Thank you for taking the time to write this survey detailing your experiences with The Estate. We love the loyalty that much of our clients show, and for that we are thankful.

Yes, change is always hard, but especially where people are involved. We are confident you will learn the new faces around the property, and build lasting relationships with the staff through the years to come. They are really special people who truly care about your experiences at The Estate. We are so happy Chris made an impact on your stay, and know we are very fortunate to have him!

Yes... the waffles and omelette station have been sorely missed by most who experienced them, but we are looking at various ways to enhance the complimentary breakfast to satisfy all of our guests, new and loyal.

We hope you choose to remain part of The Estate family, and look forward to great memories ahead!

Happy Holidays!

I come to this hotel almost every year for thanksgiving for the past 5-6 years. It used to be called the Vintage Inn. I was completely surprised this year that the reception hall has completely changed. Instead of the old fashioned building, it has adopted an ultramodern design with a great deal of linearity and contrast between black and white. In the past, many of the guests would like to sit in the reception area next to the fire, reading or making converstaions. I notice that with the renovations, guests probably find the style too cold for gatherings. The rooms are as spacious as before but has also been modified to a more Four Season atmosphere. There are disappointments. There are no longer afternoon tea with coffee, cakes and sometimes wine. The breakfast offers much less varieties than in the past.

Rooms were decorated nicely and comfortable furniture, but lacked any real drawers/storage to unpack our suitcases.

The included breakfast was very nice and just the right amount to get your day going before winery visits. Great location right in the center of town with an easy walk to everything.

The big NEGATIVE - the rooms are not quiet! We were in a premium king which was on the "interior" courtyard. Sorry, but the traffic noise from Hwy 29 and early morning trucks in Yountville were constantly waking us up. Also the noise of people walking and talking on the exterior hallways was also a negative.
