Great location, exceptional staff, we booked 8 days for business and because of the entire friendly staff, particularly Jessica who went above and beyond, we decided to extend our stay for 5 more days of vacation time. The hotel is modern, in a new location near Aspen and within driving distance to Glenwood Springs. They foster an environment in which the staff is genuinely caring, world class, goes above and beyond, and a delight to be around. Plenty of new restaurants, shops, Whole Foods grocery, a cinema and so much more surround the hotel. Public transportation is convenient. Previously, when in the Aspen area we’ve stayed at the St. Regis in downtown Aspen with it’s classic luxury. But, with their refreshing modern take on elegance that emphasizes environmental consciousness, we are very happy with our decision to stay at the Element. We will definitely stay again! And, hopefully get to say “Hi” to Jessica and the incredible staff again. In our 10+ years as SPG Platinum Elite with Starwood and traveling to far too many Starwood hotels for both business and pleasure around the world, so far, only the St. Regis in DC near the White House has service that compares to this Element. Before trying them out, we would never have guessed that this singular stand-out hotel would have been in such rare company. Great work all! Continue setting a high standard for modern, practical hospitality.

We stayed at the Element Basalt over Memorial Day weekend. It is a modern and clean hotel with pretty nice room layouts in a convenient location. That said, there were several aspects of the experience that didn't warrant they were very understaffed at that point. At one point, one of the two elevators was down due to "scheduled maintenance." Really, scheduled maintenance on Memorial Day weekend? And finally, the HVAC system in the room is situated so that the air blows directly on you on either side - couch in the sitting area, or bed in the bedroom. While there aren't many decent hotel choices in the area, I'd say that this one is worth about half the charged price.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the Highway 82 side.

Dear T S,

Thank you for staying with us and submitting a review. Our staff strives to meet all of our guests' expectations, and we welcome your feedback.

Our apologies regarding the elevator. For your safety, we have strict guidelines that we have to follow after the elevator is compromised in any way- in this case it was unsupervised children jumping in the elevator and hitting all the buttons.

Being a LEED certified hotel, the HVAC systems in the rooms are set up to be as energy efficient as possible. We are sorry that their location in the room was inconvenient for you. They can be turned off at any time.

Again, thank you for staying with us.

First, let's get the location straight. The Element is in Basalt, not Aspen. Aspen is a 20-30 minute drive up the valley. Second, our (my wife and I) stay was in mid May so this is considered the off-season. I don't know what the place is like during the Winter or Summer tourist season.
We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed the hotel very much. The entire staff was pleasant, efficient and caring. We found the hotel interior to be very quiet except for the lobby/breakfast area during the weekend mornings. However, this was due to a large group of families there on the weekend for a nearby Lacrosse tournament so there were a lot of young kids running around while getting their breakfasts.
Our room was very roomy, very neat and very clean. The bed was firm but comfortable. There was a large desk for writing, etc. as well as having clothes storage drawers. There was a large double closet with a small safe inside, so combined with the desk drawers, we had plenty of clothing storage areas and didn't have to live out of our suitcases. The room had a nice kitchenette with sink, microwave and small refrigerator. There was also plates, flatware, cutting knives, real glasses, coffee maker, juicer and a few other kitchen items so some cooking could be done in the room. The bathroom was large and well appointed. No bathtub but a very large shower. In fact, the shower was a bit too large (about 6'x3') with a high shower head at one end and soap and shampoo dispenser at the other. I'm 5'9' and anyone shorter would have trouble reaching the shower head as it's located high on one end and I could barely reach it. Also, due to the length of the shower stall, you really have to step out of the shower water stream to get to the soap/shampoo dispensers. A minor irritant but no big deal. The bathroom also had a hair dryer in a drawer. Oh, a minor detail: there were no cups/glasses in the bathroom. I found that odd. Every hotel/motel I've ever stayed in always had plastic cups in the bathroom.
Our room (102) was one of only 3 rooms that has a patio. A nice touch for relaxing or eating as it had 2 chairs and a table. If you'd like to sit outside, ask for room 102, 104, or 106. These rooms are also very close to the side parking area which is convenient for loading and unloading suitcases as well as just getting to your car.
The rooms have keycard locks as does the nearby side hotel door to the parking lot. The side door is locked during the night hours for security purposes. However, on Saturday morning, I found the lock didn't work so couldn't be opened with our keycard so we had to walk around the hotel to another door to get in. I reported the issue to the manager, but by the time we left on the following Tuesday, it still hadn't been fixed. A minor irritant but I thought they would have fixed the lock a bit quicker.
The area around the Element is the newer built Willits development area of Basalt. New buildings with several shops and restaurants within a 5 minute walk max. There also nearby walking/biking trails. Many rooms have views of nearby hills, but don't consider this a 'view' hotel as its right next to the valley length highway which is the main route through the Roaring Fork Valley (Glenwood Springs to Aspen).
So, we found this to be a very nice hotel/motel and would definitely consider staying again.

Room Tip: There are only 3 rooms (102, 104, 106) with patios and these face the interior courtyard area.

Our apologies about the doors, it did take a couple tries to figure out what was happening, but now they are back to their normal lock schedule.

Wife and I enjoyed our recent stay here, but I wouldn’t again unless I got at the same great low rate. I’m a light sleeper, and from what I experienced, and what other guests told me during our stay, there’s really nowhere in this hotel that’s truly quiet.

The beds are a bit too firm for my taste, but the rooms felt well-appointed, simple and clean. Service was good, and they have a nice common area both in and outside the lobby area. Very convenient, easy walking distance to a good selection of restaurants, shopping, and renting bikes.
