Terrific staff

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Sept 2016
Getting there: We took the challenging path, through 7 miles or so of rough roads. It's doable with an SUV and I've seen a couple of normal cars attempt. What's challenging is not so much the steepness of the road but rather there are a lot of large rocks sticking out. I wouldn't attempt this road in a normal car, but I think technically it's probably doable. There's also a longer and easier path to get to the hotel (check the hotel website for directions.)

The river: We went to the park first. Yes, the river gets gray-ish during times of downpours, but we had mostly sunny skies. Although the hotel has a path that leads to the river, the park views of the river's waterfall and other volcanic features (keep walking past the waterfall) were far superior to the small piece of river you could see from the hotel path vantage point.

The grounds: The resort is lush and pretty, with flowers adorning tropical foliage. However, besides the path to the river (how many times would you really trek it?) and a swimming pool, I'm not sure what else there is to do there. I'm not faulting the hotel, but unless a tropical vegetation vacation is what you're looking for, I wouldn't stay for too long based on my personal preference. Having said that, the hotel is only a mile or so from the national park, so it's a great stopover after a long day of hiking.

The staff: The staff at this hotel exhibited some of the best customer service I have ever come across: polite, charming, intelligent. They answered all my questions, were extremely flexible, and one of them even sat with me for 20 minutes to suggest other places in Costa Rica I may want to visit. Truly incredible.

Dear BocosTravels,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review. The feedback is very important to us and helpful to future guests. We are happy to report that the road to access the property is being worked on, and it should be an easier drive by the end of the year.
The trail that leads to the river inside the property allows you to swim in the Rio Celeste River if you’d like, and we certainly agree that the hike inside the Tenorio National Park is not to be missed! You can visit the Teñidero, where two rivers carrying different minerals meet creating amazing colors once mixed and reflecting the sun´s rays. The waterfall is spectacular as well, and the smells, sounds of the forest is mostly appreciated with the help of a guide. Their trained eyes can help you see and identify the unique flora and fauna of the park.
There is much to do in the area surrounding our property. You could have a different activity planned every day of the week, including rafting, hiking, white-water rafting, birdwatching, hot springs and more. Of course, your stay may be as action-packed or relaxed as you like, and lounging by our pool, enjoying spa treatments or just reading a book at your balcony while listening to the forest are options to enjoy.
We are delighted to hear that customer service was exceptional at Rio Celeste Hideaway Hotel! The continuous training and time invested in our employees combined with Costa Rican hospitality have paid off, and it is very gratifying to hear.

We look forward to seeing you again soon,

Gabriela Mora and the Rio Celeste Hideaway Hotel Team

We stayed at the hotel for one night so we could hike up to Rio Celeste. I would recommend staying here at least 2+ days and taking the guided hike to Rio Celeste. The staff here is very very friendly and welcoming... we absolutely loved Gustavo. The rooms were very clean, the jungle shower was cool and the food was great. Most definitely going back and taking the kids to see all the nature.

Dear Montana H,

It is wonderful to hear from you! We do agree that a stay at Rio Celeste should ideally be more than two nights. This because there is so much to do inside our property and in the surrounding area visitors could have a different activity planned every day of the week, including rafting, hiking, white-water rafting, birdwatching, hot springs and more. Of course, your stay may be as action-packed or relaxed as you like, and lounging by our pool and Jacuzzi, enjoying spa treatments or just enjoying the sounds of the forest on your private balcony are also lovely options!
Gustavo can’t wait to welcome you back as a family, please let us know when that will be so we can take care of all your needs.

this is a very small hotel that affords world class service. The entire staff is very welcoming and they take pride in their service.

The hotel grounds itself are very nice, draped with lush plant vegetation. The rooms themselves are spacious and have all amenities like safe, laundry service, a balcony, and an outdoor shower.

The beds are not very comfortable to be honest. The mattress is thin and firm. Also, it is no fault of the hotel, but be prepared for incredibly humid feeling in the air if you go in September when we did.

It does rain nearly every day, but the rain comes and goes within an hour. It's actually incredibly soothing to relax on the balcony and enjoy the sounds of the storm.

The hotel itself is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, so i recommend that you have activities reserved. we used Onca Tours and they provided transportation and a+ fun tours.

The hotel is pretty much your only option for food, the menu isnt large but the food itself was very good.

if you walk in either direction from the main entrance (or if you have a car), you will run into a few souvenir shops.

You will be very close to the rio celeste river. it is by far the most blue and beautiful water i've ever seen. enjoy !

Dear Rob K,

Thank you for sharing your review with us and the TripAdvisor community! We absolutely agree with you, due to our location in the midst of a cloud forest, rain is our friend and an almost daily reality at our property, varying depending on the time of year. We are thankful for this rain which allows for such lush green surroundings. Happy to hear you enjoyed the soothing sounds at your spacious casita. There is so much to do inside our property and in the surrounding area visitors could have a different activity planned every day of the week, including rafting, hiking, white-water rafting, birdwatching, hot springs and more.
Rio Celeste’s color is breathtaking isn’t it? It’s a combination of the minerals settled on the riverbed with the sun’s rays that provides that fairytale light blue.
We look forward to you visiting us once more very soon,

We didn't get to the hotel until 9:00pm. The staff was very friendly and courteous and will go out of their way to accommodate your needs. The rooms are individual bungalows. The room is huge as well as the bathroom which has a outdoor shower as well as indoor with jacuzzi tub. Large balcony looking into the Forrest . Didn't have dinner, but breakfast was decent. Very secluded spot. Loved it !!

Dear ivansP9337NC,

We are so happy to hear you enjoyed our accommodations! Our casitas are certainly one of our highlights, with their individual decks and outdoor showers. It sounds like you had a very short stay, please come back again. There are enough activities at our property to keep you busy for a week, and of course, you also have the option to be as relaxed as you like, at our spa, Jacuzzis and pools.

What an amazing place after 10 km of a bumpy dirt road
Needs a few signs 😳just to find it
Once you get there you get greeted with drinks and the hotel rooms are amazing.
Breakfast and dinner and drinks are excellent!
They have a spa and all the activities that you would ever want to do!
The hotel has a walk to the blue River.
We went swimming in the blue River.
You could also go with the guide or on your own to the Volcano national Park and the waterfall is amazing
I recommend not to drive-in at night and to use the SUV

Getting to the hotel is very interesting it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere but once you get there is awesome, the place is beautiful decorated, nice rooms, pool, bar, the food wasn't that great but it wasn't terrible either, I loved the balcony on the room but I wish it had screen, I wanted to sleep with the doors open but I didn't want bugs inside the room, has a trail to go to the river that is great because you don't have to leave the hotel and it's close enough to the national park that you can do that if you want a little more challenge. I thought it was a perfect place for the location.

Dear GeorSV,

Thank you so much for sharing your comments with us and the
TripAdvisor community. We agree with you that we are in a privileged location, secluded in the middle of Nature and right next to a jewel such as the Volcan Tenorio National Park and Rio Celeste River. The trail inside our property is a fairly new addition and other guests such as yourself have enjoyed it as well. We will evaluate your suggestion regarding screens for our balconies.

We look forward to you visiting us again soon,
