this is a fantastic place to mountain bike, camp, snow mobile, hike and back country ski. Go and feel the history and the back country but be careful

We actually drove around the camp. I had never gone on the roads inside of it. Some street signs still visible, lots of foundations and great insight to the men who trained and fought in world war 2.

A mind boggling endeavor at the time. These brave men, courages, dedicated and loyal to country and flag! My hat is off for them and this tribute is worth visiting in this beautiful setting.

This is a little-known part of the efforts of the U.S. in WWII. It is hard to comprehend this area (now taken out) once housed 18,000 andmore military men working on skiis. There is a movie of the adventure (Fire on the Mountain) that shares the adventures of the men. Also there is a statue in Vail Village that tells some things about this unique part of WWII.
