My husband and I were traveling with another couple from Philadelphia to Newport and Boston. It was a goal to try lobster rolls from various locations to see if we agreed on the winner. Abbey's beat the others we tried in Newport and Boston hands down. The crab melt, clam chowder and cocktails were wonderful as well.

We don't go to Abby's much now
because they don't serve breakfast after 11AM. Church let out at 11 AM so we now go to Mirsina's in Old Saybrook, CT

Sat on the deck, has a great view, our server was very personable. The food was absolutely delicious. 3 of us had the toasted crab sandwich and all of us enjoyed every bite. Would totally recommend & go back.

Be prepared to wait. We arrived at around 1:30 in the afternoon. The place was fairly crowded, but the staff appeared to be somewhat disorganized and was very slow. As with us (a party of 3), everyone waiting to get in was told "20 minutes", but in our case it was more like double that amount of time. When we were finally seated outside we were given menus, and then waited some more to give our order, and then some (after we finally did). We weren't even sure who our waitress was at this point, as the one who we thought was our waitress seemed more at home on the other side of the deck, and gravitated there most, if not the majority of the time. When the food finally did arrive, it was already well over an hour since we arrived. We would've overlooked all the waiting and the poor service, if the food had not been so... bland, especially for the price we paid. I would not recommend Abbey's Place if: A) You expect to get what you pay for, and B) You're in a hurry and don't want to miss anything you've already scheduled (like the 4:15 pm Thimble Island chartered cruise we missed in Branford on account of this less than stellar experience). And I think I'm being generous by giving Abbey's Place 2 stars.
