As a lot of the local pubs/ restaurants in Ripley are a bit pretencious foodwise, and have visited the 'Jovial' plenty of times, decide to try out The Saddlers, i hadnt heard anything much about it - which is a shame as its quite nice! A quick look at he reviews prepared me - and a peek at the online menu confirmed it worth a try.
It is a bit past its sell by decor wise, but is full of character. The greetings were friendly, service good, and food very acceptable. We wanted a place to chat and catch up with visiting friends, and get a reasonable filling lunch. The Saddlers hit the spot. Unsure of our timings, i checked serving times, and was told If your in before 2.30 your fine. We were - and it was. Portions quite generous, i was particulary happy with my Burger, enough salad and chips, and huge tasty burger. I would go there again and recommend lunch, look beyond the wonky kitchen door, discoloured paint, see an old british pub, the likes of which are disappearing.

Four of us met here for a midweek lunch, the food was good but the bill was a surprise at £100.
Between the four of us one had a prawn cocktail £6 two shared a baked Camembert £8 and the fourth had soup as a main course £5 due to health issues. For mains we had two pie meals and one gammon £9.50 each. Desserts were one apple crumble £5.50 and one sundae £3.50 - total of £57.50 for food.
The i smears the balance of £43.50 was for the drinks - one bottle of red wine and two
and a half pints of beer, four coffees. Seems pricey on the drinks
We enjoyed it but pricey.

Stopped at the Saddlers Arms on our way through Send last week, having never been here before we thought we’d give it a try.

The staff behind the bar are very friendly and welcoming and happy to oblige.

So we sat down by the window, decided what to eat and placed order at the bar.

We waited for what seemed like eternity for our food to arrive, so to pass the tine we looked around at the decor which was looking very tired, paint pealing from the window sill, a very strange carpet that looks like wooden boards but is in fact carpet. Lights hanging in the window needed a good dust too. Our table wasn’t as clean as I would have liked either with some congealed substance on the edge ( possibly gravy) and a few sticky patches on the table top.

Eventually our food arrived, cannot fault this at all, absolutely huge portions! Freshly cooked and very tasty. We left very full and satisfied just a shame about the decor.

Visited this establishment with a group of Walkers. Friendly staff and efficient service. Varied menu with some excellent traditional pies. Would certainly visit again. However, would recommend a lick of paint - decor was quite dingy and tired, albeit the pub was clean and tidy.

It’s an old pub and the decor is a bit dark. Friday lunchtime and it was quiet. So, a dark, quiet pub that might serve lunch. But don’t let that put you off. My wife had soup....home made and excellent. And I had the best Stilton ploughman’s I’ve ever had. Great cheese, enough fresh bread with gerkhins, onions, an apple, salad and three different relishes. A feast. And very reasonably priced. Friendly staff, friendly locals. Definitely will be back for one of their pies in the near future when I expect to award a fifth blob!
