We were staying at the Inn at Middletown and this restaurant is right on the property. They had outdoor tables in a casual setting and the food came out quick and the beer was great!

Probably one of the best, if not the best, restaurants along the Main street from Middletown. Traditional American cooking. Wide menu with consistent dishes. American beer and wines mainly American also.

I give it 3 1/2 stars as its better than average. The service was very good, the atmosphere was good in the bar area was quiet on the night we were there. I had Hanger Steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. Overall it was good (never had Hanger steak) probably won't get Hanger steak anywhere again. The green beans were blanched and not really cooked, the mashed potatoes - well average. The presentation was excellent and the pricing is Ok - kind of what we expected. $$$. My wife had fish which was excellent but also had the green beans (uncooked).
I guess overall the green beans killed the rating. Sorry.

Thank you for your review. There is a difference between a la dente and raw and it looks like your beans were closer to the second. Sorry for what should have been a better experience.

While the food at this restaurant was generally excellent, I am forced to downgrade the rating because the service was very uneven (we ate their several times over the course of a wedding weekend). We had some servers who were very attentive and others whose performance can only be described as taciturn. It took almost 45 minutes to get our coffee at one breakfast and when my oatmeal finally arrived it came without sugar, milk or a spoon! Our friends' waffles finally arrived after 45 minutes and were cold. Very surprising in such a lovely hotel!

Thank you for your comments about breakfast. I am so sorry for the long wait as breakfast is a meal that should come out fast and hot. The fact that it took 45 minutes to get coffee is unexcusable. Please accept my apology on behalf of the Inn at Middletown.

Five nights at the Inn - ate supper at the Tavern two of the nights. Back East Porter is delicious; bowl of clam chowder was on the skimpy side, but delicious; bowl of chili was more reasonable and similarly delicious; Crab Cakes?! - absolutely delicious and a very, very nice presentation - loved them so much the first night that I had to order two servings of the appetizer; ordered the Cobb salad both nights - very fresh, tasty, and plentiful. Creme Brulee to close each meal - loved it. Ate at the bar each evening - Rita and Carl were personable, professional, and attentive. Two very good suppers!! Thank you.

Thank you for trying out the Tavern while staying at the Inn. It is not just another hotel restaurant and by the looks of it you feel the same way. Rita and carl are the best and I am glad you were in good hands with them
