Formerly Illiano's, this is now called Paesano's but I believe it is run by the same family. There are a few places in New London who claim to have the best pizza, but if you are looking for true Italian-style, fold-able pizza, this is the only place you will find it. The others have their own 'take' on pizza, and let's face it: most pizza is infallible! Not saying there are no other tasty pizzas in NL, but there is no better in town with the classic powdery bottom and greasy top, too thick to be considered thin crust and just thick enough to satisfy. Their Sicilian is also top notch. The grinders are big, even the small size, and their sides are also tasty, esp the garlic knots and the french fries, which are uniquely crispy. The pasta dishes we've tried are quite good, too... the cheese ravioli, the eggplant, pesto fettucini (could use a little more seasoning) and the baked ziti is good, too. The alfredo used to be a favorite, but lately has been a little too greasy. Luckily, there are tons of choices and they are almost never a disappointment. Service is great to boot, and it's a warm tradition to recieve a small bite to eat when picking up an order, or placing one to go. You really can't beat that, or their pizza!

It was after 9 on a Thursday night and there were not a lot of places still serving dinner. Paesano's Pizza Bar & Bistro (Illiano's) was serving until 10:30 so we stopped in. We were a little concerned they might not welcome late night diners but we were met with a warm welcome. We sat in the bar area and were immediately greeted with a friendly smile. Our server gave us plenty of time to decide on our order and also gave some suggestions. In addtion to the delicious warm bread, all of us were happy with our choices. The meals ordered included a dinner salad with a generous portion of cajun chicken, spaghetti with white clam sauce, and your standard cheese ravioli. The service was good, food tasted fresh, and all seemed clean. I would definitely go back.

When my husband and I visit his sister in Connecticut, we always have one meal at Trattoria Illiano. Salads and breads are fresh. During this visit, we shared two appetizers: clams and mussels possillipo and stuffed eggplant. Then, we shared two entrees: Eggplant Florentine and Gamberi and Scallop Scampi. Everything was sooo delicious...as always. The service was prompt and friendly...again, as always. Don't miss this great little restaurant.

Many southern Connecticut pizza joints are Greek. This is southern Connecticut Southern Italian. Excellent pizza. Seafood linguine with red sauce and all the usual entrees. Nothing fancy but fits the bill.
