We have been there from 15.01.17 to 25.01.17. The weather was fantastic.
We had the most relaxing holidays ever.
We had a beautiful water villa on the sunset side and it was gorgeous. The room and the bathroom were really big and everything was clean.
Our villa was 318. The best villas are on the south of the island, on the sunset side. We requested a villa on that side and they arranged it for us!

We loved to have bikes during our stay there. It's a great idea! And also you can borrow a kayak for free for one hour.

Snorkelling on the house reef was fantastic.

We were delighted with the service.

The food was incredible, we tried every day something different.
Our butler Francis was always attentive to us.
Virgo was amazing driving us to the villa and to the restaurant. We really enjoyed the time with him.
In the restaurant " The Dining Room" Hafiz was really attentive, friendly and always smiling.
Please pass the compliment to them!! And all the cook we talked with!

The only negative point it's that we had to wait for the domestic flight to the island waiting for 3 hours on the lounge at the male's airport.
We had full board, which was really good because the prices are quite expensive and go with a tax. The drinks and water are not including, but every day they provide 6 small bottles of water complimentary in the room.
Everything is clean and the staff is always taking care of the installations.

Thank you for everything!

Room Tip: The best villas are on the sunset side, that is 318-332

From the infinity pool and beach bar to the overwater pool villas, The Residence was spectacular in every way. We enjoyed scuba diving, numerous massages at the beautiful and relaxing spa, riding beach bikes to and from the delicious meals served in the open air dining room, dining under the stars at The Faluma Restaurant, and just relaxing at our own private pool. The staff was warm and friendly and quickly accommodated our every need, even remembering our nightly cocktail order. A pilot and lawyer, we travel extensivley, and The Residence is one of the best we've seen. We didn't want to leave.

This is my second visit to the Maldives, and the setting was just as lovely. A real piece of paradise.
The extra flight was about 10 hours travel on top, in waiting time etc., for there and back For just a week I'm not convinced it was worth it.
The pictures of the room, did not do it justice. It was truly first class. The 6 foot wide bed and pillows were wonderful. The bath size was the best I have ever had in a hotel. Perfect. There are three pin sockets, so no need to bring an adaptor from the UK. For others there was an adaptor. There is a kettle and coffee machine. No instant coffee.
We stayed on the sunset side, and at times this was very windy and noisy. They are in the process of changing the windows of the villas. This did create noise for a few hours on most days.
The food was good, in buffet style, with enough variety to suit everyone. The drinks to accompany the evening meal were extortionate, not helped by the exchange rate.

The sunset cruise, was expensive and no drinks or nibbles were provided. Not what I was expecting, having done this sort of thing for years all over the world. Such a shame, as it was a lovely evening and the dolphins were everywhere, including youngsters.
We also were unfortunate to have an adult guest with us, who screamed (top note) every time she saw a dolphin. The crew appeared to encourage this. This behaviour in my view was not acceptable, and impacted on my enjoyment.

As part of the package from Secret Escapes we had a complimentary back and neck massage at the Spa. My husband doesn't do massages, so we asked whether I could have his half an hour. They said I could and for an extra $72.80 I could have two massages topped up to an hour and it would be a full body massage. I thought I was getting a deal to make me spend money at the Spa that I wouldn't have done. I would not pay £120 for a full body massage anywhere. After the first massage I was asked to pay the £60. After the second massage I was asked to pay another £60. When I pointed out I had already paid, I was told that the deal was to pay £60 for each extra half hour. This is not how I understood it or my husband. I left not paying, but was unsure whether it was just a misunderstanding or a scam. Beware.
Service from all of the staff was first class and thanks to Francis, our butler.

We spent two weeks at the Residence and really enjoyed every minute. The trip is long, no way around that but we felt it was well worth ir when we arrived. The Residence handled everything from the moment we landed in Male until we departed again and everything was seemless and well handled.
Once we arrived at the resort again everything was very easy and painless. As we settled in we enjoyed several excursions - scuba diving, sunset dolphin cruise, visiting a native village and deep sea fishing at dawn.We enjoyed everything with the sunset dolphin cruise being our favorite as we saw dozens of dolphins that swam along with our boat and the team on board were lovely helping us take photos and get the most of the experience.
The main thing we need to say is that the staff was exceptional - every single person was absolutely lovely and welcoming and helpful. They take pride in everything they do and it shows. We had to switch rooms as our overwater bungalow wasn't available for the first couple of says so we had two butlers - Shamin and Francis - they were both wonderfu handling all our reservations, telling us what was going on each day and basically taking care of anything we needed. Armeez took care of our room and was terrific. When he learned of my husband's sweet tooth he brought him extra ookies every day and reminded us to stay hydrated in the heat - he was wonderful and we miss seeing him every day. The Diamond Bhatta at the Sunset Grille took excellent care of us as did Shyiaz who handled our private candle dinner en suite and made it perfect for us. Jojo and Selestri at the spa worked wonders and maybe our favorite of all was Lawrence who often picked us up and brought us back from our dinners. That being said every person in every restaurant - all the gardeners and really to a person the staff here is exceptional. It was lovely to begin your day with a bike ride to the dining room accompanied by a chorus of "good mornings" from everyone we passed.
Details big and small are thought of and we had an excepional time.
If we had one complaint it was the food - it was not up to par with the rest of the resort - breakfast was fine - and the beach bar food was also good but dinners left a lot to be desired. Fish in particular was overcooked in every iteration. I hope they upgrade the food as it was really the only thing that dampened our memories.
As for prices - I will say two things - these are remote islands - everything must be brought in so expect to pay - as you would in Hawaii, or Bora Bora or any other remote place. The complaining about this is irritating as it is no more expensive than any other similar place we have been. You can shop at duty free if you like and bring a couple of bottles if you want but we were put off by how many commented on the prices. The other thing I'd say is about tipping. If you can afford to come here - you can afford to tip the hard working people here. They go above and beyond and work very hard and I was embarrassed to see people walk away without tipping. By the way - the workers don't set the prices or earn what those prices might reflect so think about that when you go.
We thank everyone at the Residence Maldives for a wonderful stay and commend you on a job well done. We travel quite a lot and we have never had better service any where.

Room Tip: we chose the sunset side - a little windier but also a little cooler - it is all lovely though
