“Unfriendly and rushed ”

Glenloch Tea Factory
Attraction details
Reviewed 29 July 2018 via mobile

Of all the tea estates to visit do not choose this one. Our driver insisted we come here because it is one of the estates that is 100% Sri Lankan owned. Whilst I wanted to support local business the way we were treated here was disappointing. The lady provided a very rushed tour, she had no expression on her face and often yawned.
When we asked any questions she was reluctant to answer. Of course at the end she wanted her tip and when we were browsing the shop she suddenly became interested in helping us (perhaps she gets a commission). We were so excited to visit this beautiful part of Sri Lanka but being treated like we were just $$ took the pleasure out of our experience. I have heard other estates provide more customer service training to their staff and might be better to visit. I hope the owners of the Glenloch estate read this and review their service levels.

The tour was short and informative, and the friendly staff promptly provided tea of all sorts for tasting. There are plenty of places to buy your Sri Lankan tea, but when you buy it from here you know it directly benefits the factory workers.

Called here as part of our trip around Sri Lanka and to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. We asked to use toilets before we started but guide just kept going and started tour. She did speak good English but only that we had been to tea museum in Kandy we would not have a clue as she rushed through tour and did not really give time to take photos or ask questions. Mind you had no problem standing next to us while we had our cup of tea waiting for tip(that never came). After our driver brought us to Dromore which was fantastic experience compared. Be careful what factory visited as not all the same!

Nice visit at Glenloch tea factory. We had a english speaking guide who showed us the tea factory. She told us all about the process. We could ask questions and she gave us good answers. Afterwards we got to taste black, white, green tea. Nice store where you could buy tea. Good experience!

Apparently one of the few tea factories that let you take photos. We really enjoyed our experience with our informative guide - learning about the processing of tea. We watched it being dried, sorted, roasted and packaged. We then got to try a number of types... our favourites were the OP and white tea. Chocolates are delicious and a great accompaniment to the tea. I suggest giving lunch a miss though. It was very average for a high price for Sri Lanka.
