I love nature and can find beauty in so many places but this was a disappointment. Nothing but piles of dead horseshoe crabs and stinky brown water. It was not a pleasant place for a walk.

This want good for us. Most of the crabs were dead on the beach and stunk. There are better beaches in the area.

Stopped here simply by accident on a weekday morning in late May. Just followed the signs from the main road. To my surprise and amazement, there were thousands of horseshoe crabs crowded onto the shoreline. There was a naturalist there running a field trip and he explained that it was horseshoe crab mating season. Along with the tourists, I helped flip a bunch of stranded crabs over and return them to the sea. Lots of different types of birds in the area as well. Next to a wildlife preserve. Not the beach for sunbathing and hitting the Tiki Bar for a frozen margarita, but if you appreciate a beach with wildlife and sealife that's not built-up, this is it.

Pickering was a nice secluded beach that was out of the way of city folk. The beach and surrounding properties could definitely use a good cleaning before the summer season!

We stopped by around 3 p.m. and enjoyed a walk out, thanks to low tide. Saw many beautiful rocks, and several skeletons of horseshoe crabs.
