“Worst beach”
Review of Pickering Beach

Pickering Beach
Ranked #18 of 35 things to do in Dover

It was terrible. Alllllll the dead horseshoe crabs were all over and the beach was just nasty and very small. The water was brown and dirty and if a fish did live there they would dead too. Close to Dover downs but t was not worth the drive.

Very quite small beach. I would say this beach is more for fishing or seeing the horseshoe crabs. Not big waves so that is a plus. We did see a small shark while watching the water. Saw people fishing and people that live there walking their dogs. A lot of stones not many shells.
Now the could do without part. The water is dirty. Horse flys of course. Parking area is enough for maybe 5 cars. Other than this it is a relaxing place just to walk to watch the water.

I love nature and can find beauty in so many places but this was a disappointment. Nothing but piles of dead horseshoe crabs and stinky brown water. It was not a pleasant place for a walk.

This want good for us. Most of the crabs were dead on the beach and stunk. There are better beaches in the area.

Stopped here simply by accident on a weekday morning in late May. Just followed the signs from the main road. To my surprise and amazement, there were thousands of horseshoe crabs crowded onto the shoreline. There was a naturalist there running a field trip and he explained that it was horseshoe crab mating season. Along with the tourists, I helped flip a bunch of stranded crabs over and return them to the sea. Lots of different types of birds in the area as well. Next to a wildlife preserve. Not the beach for sunbathing and hitting the Tiki Bar for a frozen margarita, but if you appreciate a beach with wildlife and sealife that's not built-up, this is it.
