GREEN CAY NATURE CENTER, maintained by Palm Beach County, is a wonderful place to view nature and get some exercise and education. There are 2 raised boardwalks, one about a half mile and the other over a mile. Along the walks are informational signs and occasional benches. Sightings might include birds of prey, wading birds, songbirds, waterfowl, turtles, otters, gators, snakes, and other creatures of nature in the various ecosystems. Among your equipment should be a camera, water, sunblock, suitable clothing for the current weather and your needs. There is a visitor center with displays and helpful attendants. Ask for a schedule of events. Open from sunrise to sunset. GET OUTDOORS, STAY AS LONG AS YOU LIKE, AND ENJOY! PARKING AND ADMISSION ARE FREE!

Our cousin suggested this excursion as we like to walk. There is a set of wooden paths that you explore. There are lots of birds and other animals as well as plants to discover. Do not forget to visit the visitors center and meet Oliver, so cute!

It is a great exercise for the whole family and the kids love it. It is better to go earlier in the year or when the temperatures are lower. They also have activities for kids during the year. If you like nature walks, this is for you.

Whether you are doing this visit as a single, couple, or group walker you be impressed by the the walk, the bird and animal scenes and all the information that is presented at both the the Center and on the boardwalk. Birdwatchers and camera buffs will be especially rewarded by the views. There are two trails to use. A shorter approximately 1/2 mile one and for those so inclined a longer 1.5 mile challenge. There are informative rest stations on both routes so the choice is yours. Make sure to bring sun screen, a hat if so desired, bottled water and any other items generally needed for an outdoor scroll with nature. Enjoy!

This nature center is one of the best things about living in south Florida. There are two (2) walking trails on Boardwalks: a 1-mile trail, and a half-mile trail. So if you walk each trail twice, you've walked 3 miles, which you can do in about one hour. Of course, looking at the many wonderful and different birds will slow you down, so my wife and I recommend more looking the first few times so that you can get familiar with the various birds, and then walk faster thereafter for the sake of exercise. The various seasons of the year bring different surprises, so it's best to be flexible. It's fabulous, and it's all FREE.
