Wanted to run away from south Florida before Hurricane Mathew. All the news reports predicted that we were to get slammed.....beyond slammed. Decided to make the trek across the State to the small town of Cedar Key. We had stayed at Cedar Cove in the past. Thank Goodness upon arrival after fighting hours and hours of traffic delays of other trying to evacuate....they had space for us. Normally this property does not accommodate pets. Gina, the owner/manager was welcoming people with pets, with lack of funds and the pets were welcome as well as people that were without money to pay or very limited funds. You see, several weeks before she and her husband, Peter totally lost their restaurant and bar that was located on the property. The loss was so tremendous.... you would think that the restaurant was never even there. Today, it is a totally clean slate and empty space. All of their possessions from the restaurant are sunken to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. Personally, this was their livelihood as I dont believe so much revenue is generated from the hotel as it is a timeshare property. So, it means so much when people that have endured such a tremendous loss give to others. This is not a fancy property by any means, Its cute, quaint and comfortable with fabulous views of the Gulf and the pristine, small Florida beach town. I hope those that were so graciously accepted in will remember this property and town when they are not themselves in a DESPERATE situation. But, we do not always remember and pay back. I know that we will moving forward. Soon, they will have a brand new 5 Start restaurant again and I hope people will make the trip and say that they are Hurricane Mathew Alumni an survivors. I am sure that Gina and Peter will remember and welcome you back with open arms.
