Third trip here, second one for a month, booked it in July,Nov1-Dec.1. Upon arriving we were barricade from parking in front on the building, had to park halfway in the parking lot. When checking in asked about, was told they were doing some construction( first we heard of this), the early morning wakeup (7:00am) with sound of large machine that was sitting in front of our unit (unit 215) and the sound of saws and hammers, great way to start the day off for the next 30 days. Even had noise after 10pm on the 3rd floor with construction, asked several times about the noise early and late, just got excuses .The staff told my husband they had a talk with the workers, should not start to work before 8 and stop at 5, well SO MUCH FOR THAT. Think that made it WORSE!!!! The room was not as clean as it should have been, carpets are terrible NASTY!!!! painting the building, replacing all the windows, construction in the rooms above us all month, SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE CALLED TO LET US KNOW THESE THINGS WOULD BE HAPPENING. WE are retired and like a vacation of relaxing and not in the middle of construction. THIS HAS BEEN THE WORST AND MOST STRESSFUL MONTH I HAVE EVER SPENT ON VACATION. This is the reason we book this month, quietness and less people. NOT THIS TIME. Will be thinking about NOT RENTING NEXT YEAR.

Room Tip: Don"t BOOK during construction!!!!! Wish someone had let us know!!!!!

We did have construction going on November and December and it has now been completed. The barricades were put in place to protect our guests and their vehicles. Our front desk did try to contact you by phone to let you know about the construction. You did not provide a working number. There is never any construction allowed after 5:00 pm. If you had issues with the cleanliness of the room you never reported it for the entire 30 days of your stay. We have housekeeping available seven days a week to take care of any issues. We also took 10% off of your bill for your entire stay for the inconvenience you experienced.

My wife and I came in August 19th through the 26th we stayed in unit 509, upon arrival very excited the staff is awesome I will say that, as we came in a little bit late ish Saturday evening on the 19th walking out to the pool and out to the beach, unpacking by now it's time for bed. Sunday as we get up we notice the unit has not been cleaned or cleaned properly, finding pistachio shells in the area rug by the couch and the sofa which looks like 1974 shag, potato chips up against the wall looks like the floor hasn't been swept bedspread in the main bedroom had stains on it but was willing to let all that go until we had found three large cockroaches two that we're dead one that I killed, went downstairs showed the gentleman at the desk, I will say this about the complex they were quick to respond within the hour they did spray I was told that they spray once a month and that some units being emptied will find more things of that nature in their, well upon further review we see this unit has multiple renters so this has not been empty so very disappointed on the bug issue and housekeeping needs to do a little better job also I will say again the staff is outstanding and Allan down on the beach that takes care of your chairs and unbrella awesome actually highlight of the week.

The condos were very nice updated and one of the ladies that had a accent from Maine at the front was very nice we didn't get her name. However the rooms weren't as clean as we felt they should of been. Room 313 had sand all over the floor and was dirty when we arrive. It was addressed they came to clean it but still wasn't cleaned well. The room had a musty odor. The couch pillows in 314 looked like the had boogers on them. We also got a blanket out of closet that was dirty. Really would of wished they had a laundry in the room even though we knew in advance. Also we were not aware of the towel exchange only on Monday Wednesday and Friday and that they barely supplied soap and toilet tissue till after we booked the room. My daughter also lost a plastic key ( like a hotel one that most people don't turn in ) which it did state on the paper that there would be a charge of 25 dollars which probably cost 5 at the most. Which we were not happy with since we were disappointed in the cleanliness of the rooms.

I have now read the reviews and seen what the GM has replied and I'm going to say even though a few of the things we didn't report pillows, blanket and didn't say the floors still were dirty. YOU SHOULD'NT HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING IT SHOULD BE CLEAN! There are no excuses if this is something that has been or is a problem it should be addressed and not make excuses. Also, just because it is stated in the paperwork doesn't mean people are happy with some of the rules once they visit. The corporation should take all advice and reviews in consideration, not take it personally. After all the reviews are suppose to make a business better.
Thank you for your time.

We thank you for your review, as disappointing as it is. I have to say housekeeping does their best with the tile floors, and if there is a problem as in your case, we need to have the tile professionally cleaned something we do at the end of each season. It is difficult getting the professional cleaners in when the units are booked backed to back throughout the summer.

We've stayed previously with this complex, and are generally satisfied with the property. We had to travel this time during Destin's "high season" which means we paid BIG time for the nightly accommodations - almost $310 a night. Our rooms (both 616 and 618) were/are listed as gold rooms - not completely sure what that is - but our room 616 had a nice kitchen and baths- the furniture in the main living space - not very "gold'ish" in my opinion- worn and the throw pillows stank terrible - I had to febreeze the heck out of them - and the micro suede fabric had seen much better days. 616 has/had a terrible smell upon opening the door - most of the odor was trapped in the sofa fabric/pillows the balcony door curtains (really smelled) all bed spreads - so, 3 bottles of fabreeze later we'd managed to mask some of the strong smell. For $310 a night I don't really want to have to do my own cleaning and de-odorizing.

I do however give The Islander thumbs up on ground maintenance - pools are heavily used and yet kept very clean, also the grounds are nicely kept too. The Islander staff are very friendly and always eager to help, we encountered Margaret a few times and she was always very pleasant and fun to interact with.

Sorry that you weren't too happy with the odors in this unit. The amazing thing is that 616 had a new sofa this year and this is the first complaint about this unit. We have had an inordinate amount of rain this year and we think that this maybe the cause, anyhow we apologize for any problems and hope you will come back and see us another time.
