McGregorBoulevard is a lovely street in Fort Myers. It is lined on both sides with royal palms, approximately 1800 in all, I believe. The first palms were planted by Thomas Edison, who made his summer home in Fort Myers, in what is now known as Edison Estate. Running parellel to McGregor Boulevard is the Caloosahatchee Intercoastal Waterway. Upon entering the downtown area of old Fort Myers, there is a gorgeous park with benches and plenty of lawn and playing area for children, for all to sit and enjoy the river. The view is spectacular from here.Fort Myers is a city on the move. The downtown area is now under extensive renovation in an attempt for businesses to move in, but, Fort Myers itself is booming with malls, restaurants, and everything else you could possibly look for in an urban city. One half hour away from Fort Myers beach, 45 minutes from Santibel and Captive, 2 hours to Miami, one hour to Sarasota, one hour to Naples, it is so centrally located, it makes for a very desirable place to visit and live. And of course, it is paradise with its tropical weather and vegetation. The assortment of palms of every variety, size, shape and even color, is exceptionally beautiful to the eye.
