“Wonderful Experience”

Canoe Outfitters of Florida

I rent kayaks here and travel the river quite frequently. It's a lovely place to go and you can kayak under and wonderful canopy of trees. There is much wildlife to see if you take your time and are very observant. Alligators aren't always easy to spot, but they are always there. The folks who run the company are quite interesting if you bother to strike up a conversation. Always a great place.

I got in a kayak shortly after the 8 AM opening, and had the water to myself. No alligator sightings, but the area was nice enough. There's also bike and horse riding in the same park. One $30 rental entitles you to stay on the water all day.

This is my new favorite place to kayak. My husband and I did the easy/moderate route of the "lakes". There is so much variety to explore and unlike the Jonathan Dickinson park route (which we've also enjoyed), this area provides more opportunity to explore narrower waterways and the thick of cypress groves. They single kayaks were in good condition. One of the staff members gave us thin pads to sit on which helped our bony bottoms be more comfortable.
An earlier reviewer commented that the service from "the old guy" was slow. Well, just enjoy a leisurely day for a change! We had a very entertaining and educational conversation with Eric, the "old guy" who owns the business. We learned a lot about the environment, the animals that live there, the canal system that feeds the river, how life in the area has changed over the decades. Plus he's really funny! That conversation was actually a highlight of our trip.

Rented Kayaks. First of all, this is a fun trip. Getting the Kayak from the old guy in the trailer took some time. In addition, for $30.00, the kayak and paddle were old. Lastly, the map which Canoe Outfitters provides is absolutely useless.

Well organised, reliable bikes (with optional basket on handlebars). Mono paper map a bit cryptic but large colour maps and signs all over the park so don't worry about a route...just cycle around and you won't get list. It's not that big.
