Owner description: Tropical Gardens set in an old fort
Reviewed 27 January 2018 via mobile

Glad we took a stroll here. It’s larger than it appears from the front. All types of beautiful foliage and volunteers do a wonderful job of maintaining the grounds. Very friendly people. It is a hidden gem.

The striking thing is about these gardens, set in 19th century defense position is that they have been created and maintained by volunteers. The butterfly garden, destroyed by the October 2017 hurricane, was completely restored and in bloom when I visited in late December.
There is plenty of shade and comfortable places to sit and look.

A fort turned into a garden, with beach access, very nice grounds, butterflies everywhere in the butterfly gardens and immaculate maintenance. This is a pleasant side trip while you are at the beach anyway..

This is a hidden gem. The gardens are free but accept donations to help maintain the grounds. The volunteers are super friendly, knowledgeable and really care for this garden. I was amazed how well they have recovered from the damage cause by recent storms thanks to the work of their great volunteers and donations from visitors and absolutely recommend taking some time out of your trip to visit this peaceful calming little gem.
