Owner description: Tropical Gardens set in an old fort
Reviewed 10 February 2018

This beautiful little garden is set in an old fort next to a beautiful beach. It is a must visit while in the keys and accepts donations to keep the gardens open to the public.

Walking on the paths is very relaxing. Plants and trees are great, and you see the ocean on part of the walk. Recommended.

We had been to lunch, walked the beach and found the Key West Garden Club, small brick entrance, unless you knew it was there you may not go in. Take a half hour and walk the path and see the different plants and the butterfly garden. Nice clean bathroom at the very back of the garden if you need it!
Irma did some damage here and one of their prime trees that you see in many pictures was totally destroyed, what a shame. But the gardens are well maintained and if you want to relax, just take a stroll. Some good history as well. Its FREE, you may want to leave a donation in the box.

Glad we took a stroll here. It’s larger than it appears from the front. All types of beautiful foliage and volunteers do a wonderful job of maintaining the grounds. Very friendly people. It is a hidden gem.

The striking thing is about these gardens, set in 19th century defense position is that they have been created and maintained by volunteers. The butterfly garden, destroyed by the October 2017 hurricane, was completely restored and in bloom when I visited in late December.
There is plenty of shade and comfortable places to sit and look.
