Owner description: Long famous for its Key Marco Cat- one of the most remarkable and influential discoveries in North American archaeology- the new Marco Island Historical Museum explores Southwest Florida's Calusa Indians and bring this vanished civilization to life with informative displays and an exciting recreated village scene. Temporary and traveling exhibits trace the settlement of this subtropical island paradise from its early pioneer roots as a fishing village, pineapple plantation and clam cannery, through its explosive growth and development in the 1960s by the Miami-based Deltona Corporation.

It was a nice find. Very interesting history of how Marco Island came to be. There’s no fee to go through the museum, however donations are what keeps the lights on.

Visitors to Marco Island are there for the sun and the beach, but don't make the mistake of missing out on a visit to the Marco Island Historical Museum. You'll learn the history of the island from the natives who lived there centuries ago to how the island was developed.

Since my last visit a couple of years ago, I recently returned with a guest and was pleased to see that almost all or the already lovely displays have been completely re-done. There are a lot more items on display, higher quality informational plaques and just overall an even better experience. So if you haven't been here in awhile, go back! If you are looking for something to do around Marco - escaping rain or sun or just need a change of pace you need to check out the museum- I always recommend this to locals who have not visited as well as there is SO MUCH information about Marco from it's original inhabitants to the more modern "boom" era.
Nice little gift shop attached with a lot of cute reasonably priced items as well as many from local artists.
The front entry area offers a rotating display of featured artists. The fee is a donation to the museum. Wonderful, welcoming docents have been at the front desk for both of my visits.

Great place to go on a rainy or cloudy day on Marco Island. This Museum is extremely well done. Great artifacts on display with well written historical backgrounder the island and surrounding area. Very interesting and well done. The museum building and grounds are also very nice and worth seeing.
