Where to start .... Check in, we arrived a little earlier than their check in time and our room was not ready, which is fine however on coming back at the said time it would be ready it was not, another 30mins later and they tried to check us into a double room opposed to the suite we had booked, we had to produce our voucher (tip to you...take your voucher with you) to prove the room we had booked. At this point my expectations were low but not low enough, the suite was absolutely devastating awful. The smell was the first thing you noticed followed by the broken and run down kitchen area followed by the bland bedrooms. We had booked in for 5 nights and at this point actually considered paying for another apartment, we contacted front desk and advised them of the issue, their resolve to send someone with an air freshener along ... Not the answer we were looking for! Contacted reception again and asked for the manager, who did ring very promptly and after explaining the issue we were offered to view another 2 rooms, our 2nd room was much fresher then the initial room and we felt a little happier at this point. Now they have a bar on site, again I would say the location of it ... Just next to the car park is not ideal for the ambiance your looking for (it's kind of like a backpackers look and feel). The barman is constantly trying to chat girls up so has no time to be friendly or do his job .... Which is just for the record to serve drinks and makes anyone coming into the bar area uncomfortable enough for them to leave asap (prior to them getting a drink) bad business!!! Our bedroom door locked itself whilst we were out and whilst maintenance man was very quick to help us, should this happen I think not. Now to the after thought of the pool area, OMG it's awful no thought no ambiance and no pool bar or towels! They have a sister hotel (Marsielles) opposite side of the road just a little walk down and whilst the frontal looks a little run down the staff, the ambiance, the customer service and the pool area are perfect and everything you look for, you would not ever think these 2 places were related but apparently they are ... Happy hour runs at both these places however the service and standard of the staff at the Marsielles is top notch and the lack of service and standards of the Dorchester are poor .... absolute poles apart. The parking seems to vary between $31-34 a day ... Rip off go a bit further down on 16th and you pay $16 a day (there may be cheaper but this worked for us). Noise at night is LOUD by any standard. All in all unless your a backpacker and at times all of us are give this place miss.

Excellent hotel central location. Desk staff were so friendly and extremely helpful. We were upgraded to a junior suite and got late checkout at no charge. Really enjoyed our stay here.

5 minute walk from Lincoln Avenue with all the shops, 2 minutes from beach (free beds and umbrellas) and 10 minutes to Ocean Drive.

Free fast wifi in room.

We have no idea how much the cost of the accommodation was because it was booked for us as part of an overall made-to-measure trip including a cruise so we can't say whether it is value for money but we can say that we were very happy with our suite particularly as we thought we had only been booked a room. We've based the 4 stars on the assumption that this is a budget priced hotel.

When we arrived from England we had been up for 16 hours so it was much appreciated to be met by friendly and efficient staff who quickly got us settled into our suite.

We have stayed in plusher suites in other hotels over the years but we have naturally paid for the higher quality of the accommodation. Because we were only here for two nights before boarding our cruise ship we would have been quite happy with a comfortable bed and decent shower/bath. Well we got the comfortable bed which was large and comfortable. Yes the bathroom is a little dated but it suited our needs and we certainly have no complaints about the towels.

For a couple staying for week or more we would think that the accommodation including the kitchen would be more than adequate for someone not wanting to be eating out all the time and just wanting to lounge around reading or watching one of the two televisions. We didn't have time to do either as this was our first visit to Miami and we had limited time.

There is a mild musty odour in the bedroom area (but not anywhere else) which may be the air conditioning (?) but this could be easily overcome by the management hanging air fresheners over the a/c vents. Only a small touch but a good one but I must stress that this is not a deal breaker and certainly shouldn't affect anyone's decision to stay here. The a/c certainly didn't affect our sleep. The kitchen has a fridge/freezer/cooker/microwave/coffee machine/toaster but no cooker.

We didn't use the pool but it looked very nice and we noticed that the sun lounger mattresses were thick and looked comfortable and were possibly not very old. The bar is very noisy at night but we were in the nearest suite to it (separated by the kitchen and breakfast room) and didn't hear any noise at all. I would imagine that if you were in one of the bedrooms surrounding the bar area then it would seriously annoy you. You can only get breakfast but that didn't bother us because we don't eat breakfast and we eat out 90% of the time anyway wherever we stay.

It's a pity that the tourist information area isn't run by the hotel because it's only manned 9-5 which is when most people would be out and about. We wanted information out of these hours and it proved difficult because the area was locked. But that's obviously not a complaint against the hotel.

We are booked in here for another two nights after our cruise and before we return to England and based on our experience of these last two nights will be quite happy to do so.

On a positive note this is well situated and close to Ocean Drive. However they don't tell you it is $33 a day to park a car.
Very shabby room with the noisiest air conditioning unit we have ever tried to sleep through. Poorly equipped as there were 5 of us but only just enough crockery, cutlery, glasses for 4.
Shower primitive and everything needs updating and a jolly good clean.
The ac unit kicked in and out constantly through the night like an aeroplane taking off which meant sleep was almost impossible.
The worst thing though was the sofa bed in the living area which was filthy and broken. It had been badly repaired with rope and when we complained the management refused point blank to exchange it. We had to shout at people to get two roll out beds put into a small living area for 2 of our children.
We had been led to believe this was somewhere between a 3 - 4* Hotel. In reality it hardly qualifies for 1*.

Room Tip: The best advice I can give is - Avoid...

First of all the most important part: the beds, after that I will describe the rest.

Our suite (no. 165) had two queen beds (1.95mx1.4m approximately). The were extremely noisy boxsprings and you roll to the middle. Not very comfy. The airco was rather noisy, but apart from that this is a piecefull and clean place to stay. We had a suite with kitchenette which was sparcely equipped but functional and nice to have.

We were well taken care off in the hotel and this really is a nice and peaceful oasis within Miami Beach to stay. Its just that the whole place needs some serious maintenance, not just another layer of thick paint, but first remove the previous dozens and then do it again and do it good and this place would win in ambiance from all its neighbours. Also the pool needs some work, but was functional nonetheless and we enjoyed it a lot.

The breakfast buffet is fair value for money, given that you are in Miami Beach, but you get only one glass of juice, which is silly. The wifi was weak but functional.

We also had the beach chairs of the Marseille Hotel included in our deal and that was really nice to have. The Dorchester is about 10min. walk from the beach and it is great to have your own place there.

Room Tip: take the suites at the back, they are quiet and peaceful
