“The perfect spot in South Beach!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

We were looking for a place that was close to the action of SB but also a hideaway. This hotel is the perfect location in between the southern end and the old north end. The rooms are large and modern. The pool is quiet and tranquil. We came off the street where it was typical SB which was bustling and loud and could not hear anything in our 2nd floor room! The staff was very professional and accommodating.

I just got back from a mini-holiday at The Tides. The location is right in the middle of all the action. The room was lovely, and the service at the hotel was unsurpassed. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. I arrived at Miami airport and took the Airport Flyer bus service (bus #150) outside of Concourse E. The cost was $2.35! It runs approximately every half hour and you get off at the corner of Lincoln Mall road and Washington avenue. The trip takes about 30 minutes and It's about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. We had breakfast on outside terraces at some of the hotels nearby, $4.99 and $5.99 for full breakfast but coffee is extra. Please note that 17 & 18% service charges are added to all bills in South Beach restauants, so no additional tip is required. It's such a fun place. The weather was cool, so we took a 24 hour pass on the Hop on and Hop off bus. Cost is $39 and it's really worth it. There are 2 itineraries included, Miami Beach and Coconut Grove and Coral Gables. Beautiful cities!

I was in a large group. Most had never been to Miami.

The hotel is in an excellent location, across from the beach and walking distance to Lincoln Street, bars, restaurants and the Art Deco heritage society.

While there is a bar next door, the music was louder in the afternoon and over by the night. The rooms all face the beach and are long, with extra space featuing a truly walk-in closet.

What sets this hotel aside from many I have stayed in is the service. From the initial check in: the front staff, housekeeping and late night security were friendly, efficient and professional.

Overall this is an excellent hotel that should receive your top consideration if you are going to South Beach.

Spent 5 days over New Years in Miami at the Tides. Despite changing management, the quality of the service did not appear to suffer.

The standouts of this hotel to me were a) the friendlieness and professionalism of the entire staff; b) the quality of the rooms; and c) the location. Nothing was too much for the entire staff, starting with the front desk (Francisco and colleagues) to the beach staff and room service. Everyone makes you feel at home, all done with a genuine smile. Super efficient! Rooms were outstanding - large size, great views, wonderful layout.

Location is great on 12th and Ocean - hotel stands out together with the Betsy as undoubtedly the nicest of the various options on or around Ocean - so much nicer than one of those 300 room hotels, or some run-down joint.

I would say that the only thing this hotel is genuinely missing is a better restaurant - given the overall excellent experience, it feels as if the Tides could really turn into THE gem of Miami Beach if it were to put together a more special dining experience. The restaurant is typically quite empty, and it is unfortunately understandable...

Overall, cannot hesitate to give the Tides 5 stars. Will be back there shortly...

Room Tip: Ask for as high a floor as possible

Every couple of years I head down to The Tides for a few days by myself to unwind and relax. The hotel is classic South Beach, from the architecture to the room designs. Food is good but South Beach is right outside so no shortage of great places to go. No better place to stay when in South Beach.

Room Tip: Beach view for sure.
