We planned a trip to HS for our last day. We actually were lucky enough to get a boarding pass for Rise Of The Resistance during the 7am queue (group 66). But I wish we wouldn’t have, because planning your day around a pre determined “return time” completely ruined our day.
Our return was estimated to be at 1pm so we arrived to the park at 11am. While it would have been nice to get there at opening, if we did that our 4yo would’ve been done by 3pm. So we thought we would arrive later and be able to stay later in that day.
But then the break downs for ROTR started happening. The estimated return time was stuck on 30 minutes forever. Then it said it wasn’t boarding. Our anticipated 1pm return time soon went to 2pm, then 3pm, then 4pm. Finally we were called and entered the line. Just as soon as we walk in they close the rope behind us because it broke down again! We waited in line 90 minutes and we heard the whoops and hollers from the front on the line because it was running again. Well it did for another 20min before it broke down again! We waited another 20 minutes or so and our little guy was done. At this point it was past 6pm and we had been in line for 2+ hours for a ride that was expected to be boarded at 1pm.
No cast members would update anyone on what was going on while we were in line. The app didn’t say what was happening, we were all just stuck there taking a risk as to whether we should continue to risk standing in line for a ride we may or may not be able to ride. After we returned back to our hotel I saw on Twitter that it was down 4 hours that day (the park was only open 9 hours).
For THE main attraction to only operate at 55% of the time is unacceptable. Even worse was the zero communication that was happening to those in line or with boarding groups.
In hindsight I wish we would’ve gone back to Magic Kingdom for a second day. The cast members their actually seemed to like their jobs and were way more cheerful.
Other things about the park unrelated to ROTR was the lack of seating for the quick service restaurants. The park is so busy that what little tables there is are always occupied by someone. Also because there is a very real lack of shade in the park, those people go to the seating areas for shade. So while you may be getting food and looking for a table, chances are you won’t find it.
All in all, it just seems like a poorly ran park. The complete opposite of the Magic Kingdom.
