We weren't looking for it but we found it by accident. We stopped at a Shell Service Station and discovered a Dairy Queen. Located at 7219 U.S. Highway 41 on the road from Tampa to Sarasota, if you don't want to traverse the Sunshine Skyway or travel via I-75, this has to be one of oldest Dairy Queen locations in the country, certainly in Florida. But a Blizzard is a Blizzard, whether you stop at a Dairy Queen in Chicago or in Palmetto. While downing an original 1/3-pound double cheeseburger and a crispy chicken sandwich, we also enjoyed a chocolate chip cookie dough blizzard and a strawberry banana smoothie. With fries. We were informed that locals have been coming to this Dairy Queen for more than 60 years. One thing hasn't changed: the quality of the product. And there are more of them in this competitive fast-food market. We left with traditional vanilla and chocolate ice cream cones. No wonder Dairy Queen has been in business since 1940 and has nearly 5,000 locations worldwide. You can't get enough of a good thing.
