Visited for lunch and in addition to great food staff was welcoming and a joy to be with. Great job.

This is one of those restaurants we have always enjoyed. Four of us visited for a mid evening dinner after taking in a movie, as we always knew that we could count on the Grill for a good dinner. Unfortunately, this was not one of those perfect evenings. We were well greeted upon entering and the service was pleasant, as usual. However, only two of the four entrees worked out. We provided a three rating, but we know they can do better. Two entrees were right on - the mahi tacos and the crusted haddock seafood dinner. For these two entrees the fish was quite good and prepared right - juicy, tender, and good tasting. However the other two meals were the crusted cod fish and chips. The fish was dry, tough, chewy, and a bit fishy tasting. We should have returned these meals, but we were tired and decided not to make a fuss. The cod was almost inedible and both meals were left mostly on the plate, with no desire to take the remaining food with us. Thus two really good meals and two terrible meals. We were disappointed to provide a three rating, but the cod and chips were not a quality serving. We felt the food might have been sitting around or left unrefrigerated, prior to preparation. Anyway we must caution re the crusted cod fish and chips. We will probably return at some point to ensure it is still the restaurant we remember.
We were there the weekend before Christmas. Ordered four different national flavors for dinner and all were great! Excellent waitress and food to take home. Do not miss !
We researched and chose Cottage Grill because of its high ratings. We were attempting to give a gift to family. I am a diabetic which is almost never a problem at any restaurant. I order meat and green veggies and no one even guesses my condition, perfect. I also need extra water and drank my first glass as soon as it was served. Twyla said she would return right away with more water.
After 15 or so minutes, I excused myself to the bathroom and found the waitress chatting with acquaintances at the bar. I politely asked for a refill and she would not fill my glass and said she would bring the water to the table. She came within a few minutes and was able to refill everyone's glass except mine. She brought me a giant glass later that absolutely looked odd on the top, and I wondered if she had tampered with it. Servers don't actually do that, do they? Now I wish I had insisted Twyla fill it in front of me, but I was being punished and I knew it. And my family got punished in the process. No more visits, no offer of dessert or coffee, just the check. And we left Twyla a full tip, because that's how I was raised.
Twyla did ask why I didn't finish my food and I reluctantly revealed that I couldn't eat sugar. That's why I had asked for extra veggies in place of the potatoes. I got 4 pieces of asparagus instead of the usual 2 pieces along with sugar beets, apple sauce, stuffing, glazed carrots, and bread. So, for $14, I got a very flavorful tiny portion of pork and 2 tough stalks of asparagus and 2 properly prepared stalks and an extra large helping of humiliation. We had actually partially chosen the place because my niece liked the dessert menu which we weren't offered. All was not ruined. We had dessert at Tin Fish, and were able to buy our family a gift certificate for their own outing. We avoided Tin Fish because it was in a strip mall, looks can definitely be deceiving. If you don't order according to Twyla's wishes, you will pay dearly. A sad last meal on vacation. In Twyla's defense, she may have had much more important business to discuss with her friends at the bar. Finally, our greeter was very pleasant and checked in on us a few times, an older lady. She might have seen what was happening and was trying to make sure we felt taken care of. I appreciated her kind words.
Summer salad with ahi tuna & a cup of yellow slit pea soup was so delicious & too affordable. The gazpacho soup was also amazing. Husband’s New England crab cakes were great too, as were his sides. These people are doing it right. Lots of nice draft beers too.
