“Get your leaning palm tree picture here”

Great Calusa Blueway
Reviewed 15 May 2018

I love leaning palm trees so for me this was a no brainer - stop!

You can picnic here and even fish. A great location and introduction to the Island. I would recommend going on the Island more though as this is just a taste.

Join the islanders at sunset here on the inbound side of the road. Its relaxing and colorful with trees shading the people and outlining your photos!

Many reviewers have it wrong: the Great Calusa Blueway is an amazing kayak route in Southwest Florida, and it has nothing to do with the Sanibel causeway!!! For those among us who are paddlers, the Great Calusa Blueway is a real gem! It gives you almost unlimited kayaking routes in the sectors of Pine Island, Matlacha, Sanibel, Captiva, Estero Bay, etc., with different maps and highlights.

The Great Calusa Blueway is NOT the Sanibel Causeway. That is the road that takes you into Sanibel. The Great Calusa Blueway is the waterborne route to take up and down the Gulf Coast from barrier island of the coast of Bonita Springs up to Cape Coral. It includes Pine Island, Captiva, Sanibel and many other areas. We spent some time on the water and enjoyed every minute of it.

The bridge hops a few small pieces of land where you can stop and picnic, fish, or relax. The toll is only on the lanes headed to the island and it costs 5 dollars to cross it with a two axle vehicle.
It's pretty but again it's basically a bridge.
