Owner description: ZooTampa at Lowry Park is home to more than 1300 animals and famous for having one of the most beautiful, tropical zoological settings in the world. The Zoo brings together animals and visitors to create unforgettable, natural connections. Guests get closer to wildlife than ever before by touching a giant tortoise, feeding a giraffe, getting nose-to-horn with an Indian rhino, hand-to-fin with slippery stingrays and more! Families can also splash in water play areas, feel thrills on rides and take in educational shows. Love manatees? The Zoo is the only place in Tampa where guests can see Florida manatees year round. At the David A. Straz Jr. Manatee Hospital, the Zoo’s veterinary and animal-care staff treat sick, injured and orphaned manatees, and return them to the wild after rehabilitation. The Zoo also cares for the most diverse group of Florida wildlife anywhere, and has won numerous awards for animal preservation.

This zoo was a surprising experience. I grew up with the Bronx Zoo as my local zoo, which is a top monster zoo. Zoo Tampa was a very nice small local zoo. Well kept! Lots of animals, activities for kids, piped music. A trip to this zoo is time well spent! Food was awful though. Buy your tix on-line for discounts, even if you are sitting in their parking lot and use your phone to purchase.

My husband and I have a 5 year old and my best friend has a 13 year old. The 6 of us went and had a great day at this zoo. I will say that the cost for feeding the animals is a bit high ($5 for a shrimp and a sardine to feed rays and $5 for a very small cup of nectar to feed the birds) but that is to be expected at a big park. Seeing the joy on my kiddo’s face at feeding the rays and birds was well worth it. The kid rides are ok. A few exhibits were closed. Otherwise, the animals have large enclosures and seemed to be happy and healthy. I definitely recommend it for animal lovers of all sizes.

My husband and I visit a lot of zoos and aquariums on our travels. It's kind of our thing. We, of course, wanted to visit ZooTampa while we were in the area. We got a nice discount by showing our membership card from our home zoo (Milwaukee County Zoo). If you have a zoo membership, check and see if you can get a discount when visiting ZooTampa, it's so worth it.

ZooTampa is a smaller zoo than we are used to and unfortunately, they were going through some renovations while we visited and thus a few exhibits were closed. That being said, the orangutans, elephants, and rhinos were amazing to see. They have so many. They also had so many baby animals to view while we visited. I loved how the above exhibits were laid out; the animals had so much room and the orangutans and rhinos were very active.

If you're in the area I would recommend ZooTampa. As adults with no kids we enjoyed it, and if you have kids they would really enjoy it.

My wife's favorite place to go. So much to see and enjoy watching animals of all kinds. The best thing about living fairly close to it, is that you pay once and can go back free all year until end of 2018.

We recently came into Tampa from Orlando for a short family weekend getaway and happened to decide last minute to stop by ZooTampa because we were early and couldn't check into the hotel yet. We got there right after it opened in the morning and had a really amazing time. The animals were all beautiful and well taken care of and there was a very cool variety of species, broken up into regions of the world, so you walk through various sections that hold animals from similar areas of the wild. The primates were very very active while we were there and it was really fun to see the animals all so happy and well fed too. There are some great experiences they offer, but we didn't have time to do them this trip. The rides inside are spread out and all included in admission. If we lived closer, we would certainly be members and support this wonderful zoo and visit more! The manatee area is currently closed but they are expanding it so it will soon be even better, I imagine.
