While I do routinely shop at a supermarket close by, over the years I drive the ten miles to visit Dekalb Farmers Market for special things. It offers a very wide selection of cheeses, coffees, vegetables, fruits which I buy plus such things as marinated herring, terrines, parsnips, shallots and breads at good prices. It also has a wide offering of fish which they will prepare for you in a variety of ways. There is a buffet lunch counter with a wide selection of cooked foods at very reasonable prices. The place is always busy but there are plenty of cashiers and generally plenty of parking. One caution is that although they accept debit cards they do not accept credit cards. Finally it is a great place to drop off recyclables such as glass, plastics, steel cans, cardboards, and newspapers,

The Dekalb Farmers Market is a friendly clean and absolutely fascinating place. It is fun and has many kinds of unusual foods from which to choose. The wine choices are great. This is a must place to visit.

This FM is amazing, but consider to visit FM North Atlanta if you still miss something after a visit this one. Great place!

It's the only place I have ever been to where you can buy tubs of almost any and every seasoning under a $1!!! Their wine selection is extensive and affordable as well. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They also have a bakery and a sit down cafeteria. They only accept cash at the flower shop or in-store bakery. I think they started taking debit cards for their cafeteria, but take cash if planning on eating there just in case! They only accept cash and debit cards for groceries. NO CREDIT CARDS. It is also the only market I have ever been to where almost all of the cash registers are staffed during high peak hours. I have never waited longer than 3 minutes to check out. Impressive! If you bring your grocery bags, be prepared to check them at the door. Taking pictures is not allowed inside as well. If you think you may buy a lot, get a shopping cart from outside. Although more convenient when maneuvering thru the crowds in tight places in the market, their red baskets on wheels are not allowed outside of the market. If you haven't been, check it out. You won't be disappointed!

This market is an invaluable source for basic staples and international foods you won't find anywhere else. It caters to individual households and restaurateurs, with bulk options of produce up to 50 lbs.
While lacking some packaged goods found at every 'normal' grocery store, you can find almost any piece of produce you ever imagined, in addition to dairy, butcher, seafood, bakery, etc. Of note, their spice selection is a thing of beauty.

One note: due to their high throughput and bulk-buying model, I recommend that you inspect your produce more closely than you would in a normal grocery store. Most of it is excellent, but there is less initial screening before it is put out, so there can be some rotten or heavily damaged goods out there.
