We always try to add some educational outings on our family vacations. This place is small, but great! The staff spent lots of time with our seven year old, answered all his questions. The behind the scenes tour is really informative. You see how they can quarantine animals, how they filter the water and how they feed the animals. All the animals are only kept there a short time and released back to the sea if they are physically able. If you love turtles, they have lots, including babies.

Small but sweet. Well worth the visit. We don’t like having to pay to park but on an island there are limited spaces so we understand the reason for it. This is geared more for younger kids but mom & dad will enjoy learning about local marine life. Our teen was bored because she’s been to the “Big City Aquariums.” We want to respect all work conducted in conservation and education so we visit all the local places like this and we always put money in the donation boxes. Pay it forward! A little bit goes a long way! The animals are taken care of and the focus is on education not commercialism.

Thanks for your review, Catherine! Parking fees help maintain critical island services available to visitors and residents alike, such as the cost of life guards during the summer season. As a non-profit, our mission is to teach visitors about coastal Georgia and stewardship of our natural resources, which we do by practicing a catch and release protocol for all of our native species. Your extra donation helps us with overhead expenses as well as husbandry needs for all of the 250+ creatures we usually have in-house. We are currently housed in the old police station and our staff has created all of the exhibits you saw, although we are working toward building a new center on the north end of the island.

You certainly won't spend a lot of time here, but that's a good thing in my opinion. It kept our kids' attention while we were there and it was interesting, so that's what counts. I think the $5 fee is more than fair considering the work they are doing for the island and animals.

Before strolling through the shops on Tybrisa, take the kids through the Marine Science center. It's a great way to show them all kinds of cool salt water creatures, a few reptiles. It's very informative and educational. They have tours, and guides. A neat little gift shop. Definitely worth it.
