My husband and I stayed in room 6 for one night on our anniversary weekend. The staff was extremely professional and friendly, our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, the breakfast was DELICIOUS, and the building and grounds were beautiful and well-maintained. It was great to be so close to downtown but in a place that felt much more private and quiet. We loved our stay and we'll definitely be back again!

Room Tip: Room 6 only had a bathtub, no shower, but they have shower facilities elsewhere in the building if y...

We stayed in room 7 which was beautiful and perfectly clean. This room did come with a shower head (keep in mind some of the rooms only have a tub). It had mostly all the amenities you would find in a commercial hotel except it did not have a fridge, microwave, or cable - none of which you need because downstairs has all of that. The room has a small selection of wines you can enjoy for a charge and the kitchen has a larger selection including beer. They also leave you with a thank you letter and on the back has a bunch of recommendations for activities and dining in Coeur d'Alene. The hotel as a whole is immaculate and has multiple areas to hang out and relax. One room has a pool table, and a couple rooms have fireplaces. The patio and backyard are beautiful as well! There is a hot tub out back and they leave out towels for you to use. In the morning they serve a simple continental breakfast that was delicious. Also, the hotel is very close to downtown (walking distance for most) which is a plus! All in all I highly recommend this hotel for any occasion, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you need a shower make sure you book a room with a shower head, some only have a tub.

Outstanding location within walking distance of downtown. We enjoyed our stay greatly--peaceful and treated with a wonderful breakfast the next morning! Only downside--website shows showers in the claw foot tubs. Our room on the 3rd floor had the tub, just no shower and we were invited to shower in the basement bathroom where the recreation area (pool table and shuffleboard are located) 3 staircases away. We will go back and enjoy this gem.

Room Tip: ask about the shower situation :)

Oh my, we had the most wonderful stay at the Blackwell! The house is historic (for the area!) and is refurbished with very classy modern decor. And they thought of everything one could possible want! The continental breakfast was great and Amber was very gracious. The beds are very comfortable and every room has a coffee maker. Two very cool fireplaces and wonderful art grace the first level.. T he bathroom was quaint but very accommodating. I would highly recommend the Blackwell!

Stayed at Blackwell Hotel for one night in December for a Christmas overnight excursion. Cd'A is a fun place to go during the holiday season to see the light displays, shop and do dinner. (Mid December found the area in early snow and bitter cold temps) Fantastic stay and looking forward to going back.

Pros:
- Location is ideal for walking to everything that downtown Cd'A has to offer. Sherman Ave is the street in front of the Coeur d'Alene Resort that runs through the downtown shopping district. The resort is on the west end, and Blackwell Hotel is 6 blocks east with everything right in between the two. This is a great walking town (even in the 16 degree weather we were in!) and the Blackwell is perfectly situated away from the busy resort in a quiet neighborhood, yet just a few quick blocks walk to everything.
- beautifully remodeled historic home that didn't miss any details or finishing touches. It was a joy to appreciate the work that went into it and walk thru the house.
- each room is unique in its layout, design, furnishings, bathroom style, etc. Study the website photos to decide which one is right for you.
- self serve continental breakfast is available in the large kitchen. Oatmeal with fruit and homemade granola, banana bread, muffins, bagels, fresh fruit, hard-boiled eggs, coffee, juices, etc. It was delicious. We took ours out to the living room area and ate in front of the fireplace.
- We chose Room #3 - fabulous corner room with a modern private bath, gas fireplace, and ridiculously comfortable bed. It was very romantic.
- game and movie room downstairs is fun. Shuffleboard available and several movies and a viewing area.
- staff was wonderful and very welcoming.

Cons
- checking in was a little confusing. We confirmed our arrival time by email (per the hotel's request) but couldn't figure out what door to enter the house. The front door and side door both had signs saying a key required and to call a phone number for entry. We asked the gentleman shoveling the walkway and he directed us to the back of the hotel to enter thru the kitchen. We were warmly greeted and it wasn't that big of a deal. I would recommend that the email asking for arrival time include more info about where to enter, etc.
- There could be group events going on when you are there which may or may not affect your ability to be in the living room areas. When we arrived at 3 p.m.on a weekday, there was a large class going on in the main living room. Next day at checkout the staff was setting up for a luncheon. Popular location and great to see the hotel thriving. If events are an issue for you, be sure to ask when booking if anything else is going on during your stay.

Misc. things to note:
- as others have mentioned, no elevator, but you shouldn't expect one in a former home. It could be people expected one because of the term "hotel" in the title? If you need help with bags and the stairs, ask for help.
- parking is on the street/neighborhood on 9th ave. No parking lot.
- Study the room descriptions to fully understand each room. Some have antique claw tubs/showers, some bathrooms are across the hall, some rooms are very contemporary and others more antique.
