Got Ripped Off By General Manager

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Oct 2017
Dont book this hotel. I got ripped off by the General Manager. We booked three rooms on Agoda, which stated up to 2 pax per room (since its a spacious double bed). So we had 2 people in each room. When it came time to check out, these guys made us pay an addition $25 per person?!?! Couldnt believe it. On top of that, they tried to charge us for a Christmas Eve Gala Dinner. And it was mid-October?!??! What a scam. We got into an argument for 30 mins and then gave up. We missed our flight and this ruined our otherwise fantastic trip to friendly Sri Lanka. This is something I expect in India, not Sri Lanka. Very disappointing!

Dear Mr. Nikhil.
Reference to your complain. As you know You have booked 3 single rooms and for the same price you wanted 2 doubles and one single. In the world any hotel not allowed to do it, .Even the the dinner you have ordered one Chicken burger and after waiter served to you have complained that you wanted the burger with a Chicken drumstick. I was surprised because there is no chicken drumstick burgers served in any hotels in Sri lanka.
After you complained i gave the burgher free of charge for you. Its seems every hotels you visit you are trying get free of charge after complaining, May be this is your bad habit and your style. Hear after when you go to a hotel please pay the money for accommodation and dinning according to how you booked without cheeting others.
Regards- Kingsley- Hotel Manager.

Good location for safari but would try somewhere else to stay next time.
The first cottage we were shown to stay in over looked a wall and felt very closed in. They offered us another cottage where the verandah looked over the little river which was much better and private.
Rooms average but adequate. Reception staff very helpful I had issue with wifi most of the two days.
Restaurant needs to be run differently, it was very quiet when we were there but couldn't pick a table of our choice we had to sit in the middle when there were nice tables near the gardens ,
Evening meal average and breakfast poor. We didn't eat there the next night. Pool area good and close to,the cottages.
For one night and not to eat there would be ok if nothing else available until some improvements are made,

We stayed here for two days , Hotel is much nicer than how it shows in the pictures , It is a real value for money . Rooms are comfortable though not very grand. People are really nice , they will attend to all your needs instantly . Food also good , no much variety , but hygienic and tasty.

Good pool also , very very relaxing place , we will definitely go again !

Located about 15 mins away from the entrance to the Uda Walawe Jungle, this hotel surprised me in more ways than one.
For starters, the welcome we received was very warm and hospitable. They were even courteous to allow us to change our meal times to a more comfortable schedule.
Once we got to the room, we were pleased to see a very comfortable queen size bed, some artistic furniture, a clean and spacious toilet & an air conditioner that worked fantastically.
The pool was nice and the grounds were well kept with a variety of trees planted. There were some outdoor adventure activities as well which we tried out for the fun of it.
The restaurant served a decent buffet for breakfast & dinner. Lunch was a la carte. The variety of choices were less, but the taste of the local dishes was delicious. The Chef was courteous enough to prepare a few items of our choice too. There is a decent selection of wines & beers available.
We arranged the Safari to the Jungle by the hotel itself & it was a very good choice. The driver definitely went the extra mile to make sure we saw many animals and that we also saw some of the natural beauty of the Jungle.
All in all, I was very impressed with everything at Nil Diya Mankada. It was also definite value for money considering the price we paid.

Room tip: Garden view rooms are nice

Great resort setting, good pool, rooms, food and restaurant with attentive staff but too many flies- I feel fans should be kept on and ceiling fans installed to help.
We requested breakfast and lunch packs for an all day safari to be ready by 5.15am but had to wait 30 mins for them to be done which delayed the start of our safari which was disappointing.

Stayed overnight before a full day safari in Udawalawe National Park.No complaints at all about the setting, the room, the pool, the service or the food. However we had arranged for a packed breakfast and lunch for our safari to be collected at 5.15 am but wasn't ready until around 10 to 6 so delayed our departure. My other issue was sitting in the dining room after our wonderful elephant-filled safari, we were surrounded by large historical photos and drawings of elephants being shot and chained in colonial times. I appreciate that these atrocities happened but found it very uncomfortable eating my meal with feelings of shock and shame for our ancestor's wrong doings!! They would be better placed maybe nearer reception where viewing could be more optional.
