This was a wonderful experience. A friend suggested it and I'm so glad I agreed. The guide was extremely knowledgeable. I went home and ordered some books on Amazon about FLW. I did take a spill because I tried to get off the Segway when I hit a curb. Once I realized I was trying to get off the Segway things went fine. This is a terrific way to do a tour like this. I will be suggesting another trip with some friends.
Luke, our guide, was great. I had never been on a Segway. He was very patient and provided great instruction and encouragement. Once I was comfortable, we were ready to go.
The history and the tour he provided was informative and interesting. He knows his "stuff".
The tour was great our guide was awesome and really knows his stuff. We learned a lot about FLR and loved riding the segways.
We had a terrific time with Luke. We were two couples, all in our early 70's, with one real history buff. Two experienced Segway'ers, and two "newbies" Luke was knowledgeable about FLW and his houses, the history surrounding his development, and even a few "back stories" regarding his personal life. A truly fun experience. Definitely a "must do" from both a tourist and Segway perspective.
Riding a Segway is perhaps the best way to cover a lot of ground and experience this area of interesting and significant Frank Lloyd Wright older homes and see 10-15 of his houses that walking would make difficult. Total a bit over two hours, 7mi/10km covered, and the guide Luke is quite knowledgable about the area. Learning to ride the Segway was easy with his simple instructions, quite safe, and beats walking or pedaling or getting in and out of cars repeatedly. The experience was memorable and well worth the price, and just a few steps away from the end of the tour is an Oberweis Dairy with excellent ice cream to round out the event. One could look at it as an outdoor Segway activity with an ice cream finish, decorated with a small seed of architectural appreciation planted on top.
Luke the owner was very knowledgeable about the Frank Lloyd Wright homes and very friendly. Segway was easy to learn.
