I was just telling my son yesterday (he graduated from U of I) that I admire that Alma Mater is a revered and beloved iconic statue and symbol of the university yet, it is not treated as "sacred". Meaning, the students and university will dress her up for fun, depending on the time of year and the events taking place. I was by the statue yesterday and it was the day of the local marathon and AM was adorned in a runner's BIB with a number. How cool! Located at the crossroads of the campus this statue is a must-see if you are here.
