We stayed in the boxcar with my grandchildren 5 & 12 years old. Each enjoyed the wonderful experience: the loft, the large sliding wood door at the entrance of the boxcar, the trains blowing their whistles while passing. We celebrated a birthday in the gathering room and felt right at home. This unique lodging was impeccable in every way: decor, hospitality, food, cleanliness. We enjoyed the stroll through the open market just a very short walk next door. We also liked the location in Chesterton...a small town ambience and so close to the Indiana Dunes National & State Parks. We were looking for a unique fun traveling experience different from the typical amusement park rush. The combination of the boxcar accommodation and the trails, beaches, tours at the Indiana Dunes Parks kept everyone happy. We've already planned our return. Visitors should be aware Riley's is very near a railroad crossing with frequent trains passing day and night. The noise of the train tracks and whistle blowing added to the ambience and excitement for us... some might prefer a more silent night.

Room Tip: Trains passing, rain on the metal boxcar roof added to the ambience & excitement for us. Some might prefer a more silent night.

We stayed at one of the box cars while visiting the Dunes. This place is amazing. My two teenagers were extremely excited to be in the well decorated room with a cozy loft. The owners and hosts made us feel very welcome. What a highlight of our trip!

A month ago I tried to book a room. Full. One the spur-of-the-moment, I called again several weeks later and BINGO, got the upstairs room reserved.

Spotless, railroadiana abounds throughout, accommodations are superb, and Host Richard Riley is the tops. My wife and I have stayed at a number of rail related stops, but this has to move to the top of our list. My WIFE loved the entire atmosphere and hosts. The rail action was to this mid-Iowan, absolutely beyond compare.

Of course it is a given that folks who choose to stay at the Railhouse love trains, their rumble, their noise and the sight of multiple consists blasting past Riley's.

We will return.

Room Tip: Richard has two rooms: upstairs or down. We chose up: do! He is refurbishing additional rooms that will not disappoint.

We had another great stay at Riley's Railhouse. It's just a wonderful place to relax, watch the trains go by, chat with the owners, and play with the Railhouse dogs. This B&B is impeccably decorated, the rooms are nice, the breakfasts are delicious, and it's walking distance to several nice restaurants, which is handy. We're looking forward to our next stay there.

Room Tip: The upper berth has a nice viewing patio.

A truly remarkable experience and a highlight of our summer travels! Our hosts were very special and obviously love "railroading" and people!!! Still have memories of hearing the trains going through the small town! Rooms were large, very well furnished, very clean and the bed was soooo comfortable. They are adding rail cars and will be anxious to return . . . that is a definite!!!! An excellent rating is hardly sufficient to describe the Railhouse!

Room Tip: At present there are only two rooms . . . one large for families and one for a couple.
