I’ve been visiting this hotel and town for over 20 years so that speaks for itself. It’s smaller than most big hotel chains and I love the bungalows on the beach. The Public Relations rep Liyenis is amazing and made sure that my stay was enjoyable. She is always available to answer my questions and is a ray of sunshine! The beach bar staff (Lazaro Coba) is fantastic and always puts a smile on my face. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to bring good customer service and make you feel loved. I look forward to heading back in a few months!

I just returned from a week at this resort . The weather was absolute perfection!! I stayed in a bungalow that was by the beach , and found our lady did a wonderful job on cleaning , and providing towels. The air conditioner broke and some very nice young men tried to fix it but in the end we just moved over one bungalow . The beach is as others described. The week days were very quiet, the weekend brought some lovely local families to the beach . It was very disappointing to see the mess they left behind . Other guests did not clean up their plastic cups and/ or cigarette butts, and their didn’t appear to be any staff dedicated to this issue .
I used bug spray , so didn’t receive any bites.
The food was goodish , not a huge variety but what I ate was tasty . The snack bar provided burgers, hot dogs , sandwich, fries and a few days pizza . The a la carte had wonderful service . I had a nice grilled chicken dish . The wine was quite tasty.
The HolaSun rep was not available whenever I tried to find her to book an excursion . I did take a taxi into Trinidad for a day. It would have been better to take a tour.
I only attended one show, but others said the ones they saw were entertaining.
It would be nice to have bottled water in the rooms , such a hassle trying to get your bottles filled . I bought from the store , but it isn’t always open / and it no cold water available.
I think I will return next year because is excellent value for your money .

this was our third time at this resort and something is terribly wrong. the snorkelling was great, 99% of the staff are very nice, the view from our Bungalow was spectacular, and the rest is down hill. My wife, my granddaughter and I were severely eaten alive by sand fleas on the beach and in our room, close to 400 bug bites totalled an majority when we were sleeping, we would wake up with extra 20-30 bites each every morning. The food variety was terrible, the same foods every night, meats not cooked properly, the cooking staff were very slow, talking with other staff, playing with their phones while line ups grew and grew. scary flea infested cats all over the place, you could hear cat fights every night. our transat advisor was never at the hotel when he was supposed to be. the first 2 days he did not show up at all. so we were stuck waiting for hours when we wanted an excursion, because no one else would help us, they said we have to deal with our trip advisor, his name was Rigo. on three days the cleaning lady was in and out of our room in less then 2 minutes.

Room tip: go to the brisas down the street. we will never go back here again

Estimado Cliente,
Sinceramente,

I often wonder how peoples' experiences of a place can be so different. Our flight was delayed out of Montreal so we arrived at this hotel at about two in the morning. The receptionist was agreeable enough and we were offered a snack which I declined. What often is a problem of language can make people appear sullen. I got a bungalow right by the beach, bedroom , sitting room, and bathroom. It was clean tastefully furnished and the bathroom was newly done.

The shower needed a minor repair which was done immediately. The furniture was older than in a modern American hotel but serviceable and in good condition. The cottage was about 50yards from the beach bar.

The beach itself is enclosed by rocks and a sandspit so there is little wave action and it is shallow at first and so ideal for chllcren or the elderly if unsteady on their feet. .The main hotel looks like it was built in the sixties, terrazzo floors, lots of concrete, There are various small bars a pool, a stage for dancers singers conjurors of various capacities, There was bingo. There was a good deal of sexy dancing by the girls and some extremely camp stuff from some of the boys. There is a fashion for strange haircuts and evidently general acceptance of sexuality of all sorts without being in any way distasteful about it.

The food was entirely adequate but not gastronomic . I had eggs fruit and coffee for breakfast, For lunch there was a considerable selection to chose from . I usually opted for something cold but there was all kinds of stuff and a variety of cakes, flan ,icecream etc for those who like that stuff. There were other or similar choices in the evening. The coffee was good the alcoholic drinks included in the price.

I found the staff pleasant, helpful and solicitous. They have every reason to be so because having access to gringos gives them a chance at all kinds of opportunities that others do not have.

I have minor criticisms but overall I would highly recommend this place for a week or two by the sea. There is the sense of being in a bubble, of being both protected and separated from ordinary Cuban life. Many people earn very little and here is an opportunity to give them money, to help. There is good security here, the rooms have small modern safes, The cottages are rather remote from the main hotel and the paths are ill lit, which some may find a bit spooky, my room had a telephone so I could contact the main desk and also TV which got CNN Radio Canada CTV Montreal and a strange Chinese channel which had some of the most tedious documentaries known to exist...but let a hundred flowers bloom!!

At a cost of about $100 a day all in it is a bargain in my view.

Room tip: bungalows overlook the sea
