We stayed in site #51, which abuts a very busy highway with heavy/loud truck and car traffic throughout the night. Bright street lights are scattered throughout and at this site in particular, it made 10:00 PM almost bright as day in our tent. The sites are small and crowded; tons of RV campers. If you're looking for peace and quiet, darkness at night and a bit of privacy, take your tent elsewhere.

Great location. Awesome beach, lake and trails. Huge fire rings. Super nice staff. Loved it. Can't wait to go back! Close to shopping. Wish I had time to rent a bike. Lots of historic sites as well. Great value.

We arrived on a Saturday and camped at site 86. It was on a corner, level, with a lot of trees and plenty of room. Be aware that you may need an extra water hose line as the water hook up is a little further away than most. It was extremely busy on Saturday/Saturday night, and people did like to cut through our campsite area to get to the playground which was directly behind us. The majority of people stayed away from the middle of our site when cutting through (which was no big deal to us and we appreciated that), but some of the kids would ride their bikes right through the middle of where we were set up. Sunday was busy in the morning with a long line of campers waiting at the sewer site. Sunday evening through Wednesday was very nice, quiet, and relaxing.

At this time of year the pool is closed so we took our grandkids for a walk down to the site of the original fort and to the beach area. And of course they loved and played a lot on the playgrounds. On the weekends there were many park run activities to participate in. There is also a boat ramp if you want to get out on the Kentucky River (but no dock). Boonesborough State Park is great with having many monthly activities for campers so just check the events calendar to see what they have going on. The Fort is a short hike or a quick car ride away and it is a great place to visit for a day. The bathrooms near the store and playground were clean and in good working order. But the one closer to the back of the park near the river looked like it needed a good cleaning. I needed to use the handicapped shower due to limited mobility and the shower was dirty. The sink and rest of the area was clean, though.

Everyone at the front gate to the employees at the store were kind, helpful and personable. We really enjoyed our visit. It is a beautiful state park with so much history. We will definitely camp here again.

We traveled from northern Michigan to camp for 8 nights, choose this State Park specifically for the pool. Picture showed a huge water slide - nope! Arrived on 8/11/16 and the pool went to a weekends only schedule on 8/8/16. It's 95 degrees and no place to cool off. No mention of that on any website. The site pads are very small and along the fence line there's garbage. Campground Host is in a huge red RV but we haven't seen the host - it's been 5 days. The workers at the entrance and the camp store were all very friendly and informative. Very crowded and noisy on the weekend, quiets right down on Sunday afternoon. Laundry room was clean and cheap. $5.50 total for 3 loads of washing and drying. Bathrooms were not as clean as they should've been.

There are a lot of sites here but only a few have full hookups so get your reservations early. We found it a challenge to back into site 4 with our 5th wheel. This row of sites fronts on a road and right on the edge of that road is a row of big trees and a drop off. This leaves you very little maneuver room. We finally got it but you will want to take that into consideration when you make your reservations.

The sites were nice with plenty of space between campers. There was shade and the campground was well maintained. We did not use the restrooms. The water pressure was high so you really need a pressure release on your hose.

The will sell you the password to their Internet. Check and see what reception you get on your phone first. Their Internet was way beyond slow and sometimes did not work at all.

We did not do the Fort but went into Lexington and to Natural Bridge. This was a good location for a home base.
