“Convenient and Affordable”

My father was transported to the ICU at EMMC from Northern Maine, unexpectedly. Needless to say, when going through a stressful time you can't always take time to shop around for a hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by the Riverside Inn. We stayed in a suite on the 4th floor with a fridge and sitting area (helping for gathering with family to comfort each other). The service is top notch. The continental breakfast is very basic, so we got in the habit of grabbing only coffee (also available near front desk later in the day), cereal or toast - and then headed to the hospital cafeteria later in the morning for more substantial breakfast with other family members.

This is definitely an old building - but staff keep it very, very clean. Any questions or requests I made were accomodated immediately. Laundry is available in a comfortable room with vending machines and seating, with microwave. I was able to do some laundry for my mom while she was sitting with my Dad in the ICU. Yes, the passage way to the hospital is a little eerie at first - but very convenient, well-lit and safe. I am not sure I would stay here for a vacation or shopping trip - my sisters room had wall paper peeling from the walls. I would, however, recommend to anyone visiting family at EMMC. My only suggestions are that the suites should have a tv in the bedroom area - also need mirror over sink/counter (since this is only outlet for hairdryer- which we needed to use since one of us was usually sleeping in a little later in the bedroom).

Room Tip: Ask about suites if staying for several days to be near family in the hospital. The regular rooms a...

THe friendliest staff on Earth, very nice room (501) & they even managed to keep us one day more when our plane was cancelled...and at 2 a.m.! I'll be back as often as I can! Full of charm place with an interesting underpass to the EMMC (BTW, great cafeteria!)

Room Tip: 501 is the best - if not free, try 502

Wife was having surgery at EMEC, so decided to give the Riverside Inn a try, due to it's close proximity to the hospital. Place was clean and comfortable. Staff was excellent and very helpful. For what you pay, it's a very comfortable place to stay, especially if you want to be close to the hospital.
My daughter thought the connector between the inn and hospital was pretty cool. It's actually the basement passageway and hallways through the connected buildings from one place to the other. Her first trip, she thought it was a bit creepy, as it is an old building. But after, really thought it was kind of fun to go back and forth that way.

Very quiet also. And the beds were very comfortable. Will definately stay again.

Repeat visit: once a year. Breakfast is back and - while not very ambitious - is fresh and non-fattening. Not a chain hotel with all the charm of a smallish place. Ask a room facing the Penobscot river, the view is gorgeous. Very nice personnel.

This was an ideal location for us. We had a relative in the EMMC and it was very convenient for us to walk back and forth to the ICU. The room had 2 comfortable double beds and was clean. The rate was reasonable and included a $5 voucher for breakfast at the hospital's cafeteria. The people at the desk were extremely helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay there again.
