I can’t thank you enough for a great experience and weekend getaway. Instantly felt at home. We walked in the door and were greeted (by name I might add) by Dani. She is simply phenomenal!!

We were escorted to our room (Chumleigh) and Dani proceeded to guide us through all of the room features (we never did even touch the tv but there was a nice one if that’s your thing). After settling in for a few minutes we went downstairs for dinner.

Dinner was spectacular and way more than I anticipated. The curry seafood chowder is the BEST chowder I’ve ever had (says the lifelong New Englander). After dinner, we were able to spend some time with Dani and her husband Enrico. Just so awesome to chat and hear some great stories from an energetic Italian excitement (“Mama Mia!”).

We couldn’t have enjoyed the relaxing environment any more.

Breakfast was served as part of the stay. Even breakfast made me smile (smiley face of bacon).

We absolutely will be back!

Bethel’s Jolly Drayman aspires to project a little British pub vibe, and it largely succeeds. There is a *little* pub that holds about 18 people, complete with a nice woodsy bar and posters from the UK and Europe. There are humorous photos of the British royal family in the men’s room. There is Old Speckled Hen on tap as well as a variety of local and international beers available.

The restaurant dining room is similarly appointed, but it can be pretty tight on a crowded weekend.

Food includes British specialties like wellies and pasties and bangers and mash, as well as a variety of more typical (American) pub fare. A small menu of Indian offerings is good if you don’t have access to a real Indian restaurant, but isn’t a first choice on the menu for this reviewer. Food is consistently solid.

Expect a crowd at peak hours (6-8)!on Saturdays during ski season, but Sundays can be very low key.

A safe and solid choice for drinks or dinner in the Bethel area, but it can feel too small when it’s busy.

You will see I have reviewed the Drayman over several years. I didnt get to write it up in 2017 but 2016 was not so good. However what a difference in 2018. Our party of 6 ended up her at 8.30pm on a cold and snowy Thursday evening when the Funky Red Barn ran out of Rib Eye and ribs!
The welcome was warm and the food superb. Between the six of us we had two Drayman steaks and a pile of Wellies, all magic - the Wellies are just melt in the mouth.
Our very pleasant server offered us the small room off to the side of the main dining room so it felt like we had a private dining room.
Definitely well worth a visit and much better than 2017 and especially 2016.

I stayed here last night with my significant other and another couple. We were delighted with the personal service, cozy accommodations, and attentive filling breakfast. Also priced right!
