The place just looks and feels run down. The staff are good and attentive, and its not their fault the place looks the way it does, it just feels old and tired and a little grubby. Needs a complete refit - and soon.

This hotel is overall a decent place to stay. It’s easy to find, although go with valet parking because the parking garage can be super tight for large trucks and SUVs. It’s close to many places downtown so the location is fabulous. The hotel has a bar and restaurant, both of which are solid in food and service. The rooms are clean, but may need a little updating in the bathroom. It’s clean, I want to stress that, but it just seems a little tired in spots and corners. The bathroom water pressure for the shower is not good, and the shower head height isn’t usable for anyone taller than 5’8”. The bathroom does not have an exhaust fan. The room had multiple large mirrors, perfect for several people getting ready at the same time.
I’ve stayed here several times and the staff is consistently friendly.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during a tour of New England in October.
On arrival we parked our car in the basement garage and took the lift up to reception, where they validated our ticket so we paid the hotel guest rate. Check in was quick and easy and extremely friendly, providing us with a city map and giving lots of suggestions and recommendations of places to visit. We arrived early, but were still allowed to check in and get into our room.
Our room was large with a king bed and excellent views overlooking the bay (we paid extra when booking for a bay view as not all rooms have this view). Bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean throughout. We opted for the bed and breakfast package which was only an extra $10 per night. Breakfast was excellent and gives you one hot choice from the A La Carte menu and tea or coffee, On one morning there was the option of the buffet breakfast (which we had and included yogurts, muffins, fruit, juices, pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage and eggs) The buffet is not available everyday.
We chose this hotel as we had read a lot about how bad downtown Portland is for driving and parking and the location of the Holiday Inn was perfect for us, close enough (only about 10 minutes walking to the main shopping area and waterfront) but without needing to drive downtown.
Couldn't find anything wrong with this hotel and would recommend on grounds of value for money, location and staff friendliness and professionalism.

Room Tip: Bay view rooms are worth the higher premium

Really liked this hotel. The staff were helpful the room with its refrigerator, micowave and dinning area was great for travelers. The walk down to the waterfront is the perfect distance, about 5 blocks, to keep the calories burning with the extra eating and drinking. The pool temp was perfect and the exercise room had all the equipment needed. Transportation to and from the airport was also an added bonus.

Stayed here in November 2016. Rooms were clean and quiet. Parking was an additional $10.00, however cheaper than paying at the Civic Center. Love the view from our window. Beautiful way to wake up with a view of the sunrise. Great place to stay.
