I wrote a review of Bug Light Park, of which this lighthouse is part. See that review. This is a great place to relax and I go there quite often.

Our b&b hosts took us on a tour of some of the Maine Lighthouses. We were so happy that we got to visit this one. The history of the lighthouse, and the ability to walk around on the lighthouse walk made it a very nice one to visit.

Free parking

Free admission

Uneven terrain on the path to the lighthouse

Wheel chair and child stroller accessible from the parking lot to the path near the lighthouse. I wouldn't advise taking a child's stroller or wheel chair on the path to the lighthouse. You can still get good photos of the lighthouse and water from the paved pathway but the path to the lighthouse is UNEVEN.

Easy to find via GPS

No public restrooms

Download a weather app. Watch the weather so you can enjoy the lighthouse during a sunny time a day. It will rain for an hour and then the sun will come out for an hour and so on.

The beauty is stunning. I seriously couldn't take enough photos and videos of this beautiful lighthouse. There wasn't that many people around so it was a very peaceful experience.

I don't know when the name was applied to this wonderful small lighthouse, but it is "cute as a bug". It once was on a breakwater that went nearly 1900 feet out into the harbor. The land has since been filled in, so that it doesn't seem to have a breakwater at all. You can walk right up and touch it, as we do nearly every non-rainy day. The entire park, known locally as Bug Light Park, are absolutely beautiful. From the park and the lighthouse, you can see all of Portland Harbor, the entranceway, it's Civil War era fort (called Fort Gorges) and the entire anchorage area and working harbor. Every day, lobster boats dart back and forth, and from May to October, a ferry passes from Portland to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and back.
