We stayed at Lobster Buoy Campgrounds in July 2017 and I can say to us this was a hidden gem. It was by far the quietest campground we have stated in. We were just steps from them ocean. It is a smaller family owned and operated that some rules that someone going there would need to know 1st is they do not allow you to run air conditioning or generators, but with the ocean breeze we found that we didn’t need it at all. We had 15 amp electric and water. We needed the extension cord to reach the pedestal. The sites were not the most level that have seen but we were able to get level. They believe in old time camping where people need to entertain themselves. They do have their own beach that you can fish or kayak from. The other campers were mostly people that come back year after year but everyone so so friendly they made us feel like we knew them for a long time.

This is a very old campground that is short on amenities but long on location. We camped in a shaded spot for three nights that was very nice but early the second day we were greeted by the installation of a porta pottie adjacent to the entrance to our site. Didn't want to move because it was the only shaded site available with water & electricity so we wedged our camper van into the back of the site as far as we could successfully avoiding any "blue box" odor & dampening the sound of the slamming door.

The staff were very friendly, for the most part the campground was very quiet (we were there right before July 4, so there were some fireworks set off) & it is very nice to be right on the beach with a stunning view.

The bathrooms are clean. The showers are very tight so it is hard not to have the shower curtain cling to your leg. But, for $.50, we got warm showers that were adequately long.

This is not a campground for those needing anything fancy, but it was what we were looking for along mid-coast Maine.

Lobster Buoy is one of my favorite places to go. The owners are friendly, but don't tolerate those that would disrupt the stay of others. There are many "regulars" that have been coming back year after year, but they are a welcoming group. Love, love, love Lobster Buoy!!

This rustic, old timey, small campground, is a gem, right on the water! Love it! We come here every year! The week after Labor Day there are very few people here. The owner is a lovely woman! Awaken to the sound of the lone lobsterman checking his pots...Watch an island appear out of the mist and realize there's a heron 20 feet away from you, fishing for breakfast.

Room Tip: We camp on the tent side, right on the water

We arrived here without a reservation whilst kayaking along the Maine Island Trail and although it was really busy the staff did everything possible to meet our needs. It was a peaceful evening with very easy access to the water. Although we were only there for one night it was clear that many of the people and resident for quite some time, taking advantage of the the quiet coastal location.
There is a small shop which sold enough food for our needs but other people would probably want to travel further afield to stock up. There is also an interesting selection of local books available to purchase.
Would certainly stay again of we are in the area.
