Wiscasset is a little New England town right on a pretty river that runs out to the sea. The town is a typical touristy place - with art & antique stores, ice cream, Maine trinkets, etc.
There are a bunch of lobster shacks for lobby rolls on both sides of the street - Reds Eats being the most famous. Although I think any good lobby roll is pretty much the same from shack to shack, Reds Eats inexplicably has lines that run down & around the block all summer long.
But Sarah's Cafe is a charming stop in an old house where you can sit & relax while driving to your destination, and there is a little bar in the back.
I ordered the Seafood Trio - Haddock baked in a ceramic dish along with a lobby tail and claw meat topped w/ a crab cake. Just enough to satisfy - the three flavors mingled well in some sort of lemon butter sauce. I'd certainly have it again. Also be sure to order the side of Sarah's mashed potatoes & homemade gravy - sticks to the ribs.
When I asked the bartender why Reds Eats got all the crazy summer business - he said some TV travel show featured it - and that was all she wrote. Never underestimate the power of advertising!
