Doc Smithers B&B
Reviewed 20 December 2016

I had made many attempts at different B&Bs in the Chesapeake City area to accommodate our Firm's owner for a special Holiday Party that occurs yearly. I happened on Doc Smithers and after one conversation with Captain Ed, I was certain this was THE place to stay. Mr. Atkinson thoroughly enjoyed his conversations with Ed & Susan, and was especially delighted with the breakfast pancakes, as Susan adds a spice to a pancake that will certainly keep you warm. Mr. Atkinson will certainly stay with Ed & Susan for next year's event!! Thank you Captain Ed & Susan!!

Room Tip: Please keep in mind it is a B&B, not a hotel!

Each year my dear friend and I leave our families behind for a weekend to escape to a B&B. This year we stayed at Doc Smithers, and our experience was truly extraordinary. While many B&Bs, including this one, are quaint and beautiful, we have never experienced such warmth, graciousness, generosity of spirit and deliciousness before. Our hosts Susan & Ed cooked up amazing breakfasts, snacks and treats (and Susan even brought up cheese, crackers and wine to our rooms after a long day of exploring). When the weather changed unexpectedly, Susan insisted my friend borrow a warmer jacket, and our hosts wordlessly made sure we had larger coffee cups on our second day after they noticed how much coffee we drink. They provided fantastic, spot-on suggestions about where to eat, small towns to visit, parks to explore and trails to hike. Before we knew it, my friend and I felt as if we had known our hosts for ages. The rooms are very well appointed, and for history buffs, Susan and Ed have fascinating artifacts and stories to share. I would go back in a heartbeat (and if my family gets on my nerves, I might stay there for the long haul :)

Just returned from a 'girls weekend' in Chesapeake City and enjoyed a wonderful stay at Doc Smithers B&B. Accommodations were lovely -- clean, warm and comfortable from the moment you cross the threshold. Breakfasts were fresh and delicious, and mid-day and evening snacks were a lovely bonus (be forewarned: the bourbon-glazed bread pudding borders on life-altering!) The proprietors, Susan and Ed, are absolutely lovely and could not be more helpful, gracious hosts. Would highly recommend.

This was our first get away in years as we are now empty-nesters and we could not have asked for a better place to stay! We received a warm welcome and immediately felt at home. The hospitality was amazing from ice cream sundaes, warm cranberry bars; delicious evening coffee to offers of ice tea and treats after a long bike ride. Breakfast was one of our favorite times with delicious food and lively conversation with our delightful hosts. Ed and Susan went above and beyond to make our stay a special one! Chesapeake City is a town we fell in love with. We had fun shopping, went for a great bike ride on the canal trail and enjoyed each and every seafood meal. We said goodbye with cranberry bars for our ride and with new friends that we look forward to staying with again, We too would highly recommend staying at Doc Smithers B & B,

Susan and Ed could not have been more inviting. The accommodations were excellent, the breakfasts very tasty, and the afternoon snacks and evening ice cream sundaes were just incredible! They are both very interesting people and have traveled extensively themselves. We were able to share some time together and our conversations were never dull. They recommended places for us to go to while on our stay there and we were not at all disappointed.
